Calvin win's the battle of the CU's as they get past men's soccer 3-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  It was the battle of the CU's as Calvin took down Cornerstone 3-0 in this hot Tuesday night game. Alex White was the difference maker in this game as his speed took over as he scored two goals of the three on the night for the Knights. Cornerstone is now 1-1-2 on the young season. It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles as they travel to conference foe of Calvin, Hope on Thursday, September 7 starting at 7 p.m.

First Half
  • The first opportunity of the game for the Knights came in the 5th minutes as the shot by Alex White was blocked by Renan Ceccon, diminishing the chance for Calvin.
  • Cornerstone would answer with a corner kick in the 6th minute as the header by Caleb Griffith misses wide left for the first shot of the game for the Golden Eagles.
  • The Golden Eagles had their second corner kick of the game in the 10th minute, but the defense of the Knights stopped any chance for Cornerstone.
  • The defense of the Golden Eagles has stopped back-to-back corner kick opportunities from the Knights as the game remains scoreless through the first 20 minutes.
  • Fresh off a Cornerstone corner kick, Calvin rushes down the other side of the field as Alex White finds the back of the net, off the pass from Chris Schau. Cavin now leads Cornerstone 1-0 in the 25th minute.
  • Calvin continued to be the aggressors in the first half with another corner kick, as the header by Ethan Brown misses wide left in the 36th minute.
  • Calvin heads into halftime leading Cornerstone 1-0.
Second Half
  • It did not take long for Knights to attack as 30 seconds into the second half, Alex White scored his second goal of the game off a long pass from Jacob Ryu to make it a 2-0 match.
  • Cornerstone has had plenty of opportunities as they had another chance with a corner kick, but the Knights goalie stopped any chance for the Golden Eagles in the 54th minute.
  • Calvin Curtis had an open shot on goal that was nicely saved by the Calvin keeper in the 56th minute.
  • The Golden Eagles have been aggressive in the second half as a shot by Pablo Rodriguez was saved by Calvin. The Knights still lead 2-0 in the 63rd minute.
  • The game started to get chippy late in the second half as fouls by both sides were starting to get on one another's nerves.
  • It continued to be all Calvin in this game as Foster Garrett found the back of the net off a pass from Ethan Brown to make it 3-0 in the 80th minute.
  • Calvin continued to keep the ball away from the Golden Eagles as they would run out the clock to win 3-0.
