Men’s Soccer secures conference victory in shutout performance over Rochester Christian

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Men's Soccer cruised to a 2-0 victory over Rochester Christian with a strong defensive performance. Tyler Corstange and Boston Knapp added their names to the score sheet to boost the Golden Eagles to the win. The Golden Eagles will next travel to Lourdes for a conference matchup on Saturday October 5th for a 4 p.m. kickoff. 

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Rochester Christian- 0

First Half:
  • Cornerstone started off the match fast with a pinpoint free kick pass from Jeff Herrema that was volleyed perfectly into the back of the net by Tyler Corstange in the 9th minute of match. 
  • The Warriors Viktor Juncaj volleyed shot was just saved by Roberto Gutierrez to maintain the Golden Eagles 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. 
  • Roberto Gutierrez made another crucial one-on-one save in the 31st minute for the Golden Eagles. 
  • Calvin Curtis had a shot just miss wide of the goal in the 40th minute of the match which kept the score at 1-0 in favor of Cornerstone. 
  • The halftime score finished at 1-0 thanks to a Tyler Corstange first half goal. 
Second Half:
  • The second half started well for the Warriors with two back-to-back shots in the 47th minute who looked to put some needed pressure on the Golden Eagles back line. 
  • Boston Knapp doubled the Golden Eagles lead in the 67th minute after a perfect pass from Arthur Puppim to set up the goal. 
  • Cornerstone free kick shot from Jeff Herrema curled just over the crossbar in a near goal opportunity, yet the match remained at 2-0. 
  • Calvin Curtis faced a one-on-one with the keeper in the 75th minute but his shot went just high. 
  • The Golden Eagles defeated the Warriors 2-0 in a strong team effort.

6 – Tyler Corstange tallied his sixth goal of the season.
