GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Looking to keep it going after Saturday's win, men's soccer hosted Siena Heights and came away with shutout victory 2-0 thanks to two goals from
Tyler Corstange. Corstange now has five goals in the last two matches for the Golden Eagles, making it 11 on the year. Cornerstone improves to 6-7-1 (5-5) on the year as they will host #RV Aquinas on Saturday, October 26 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 2 Siena Heights - 0
First Half:
- The first opportunity of the match for the Golden Eagles came in the fourth minute as a chip shot from Tyler Corstange found the back of the net off the pass of Dani Carrillo.
- Cornerstone had a golden opportunity in the 8th minute as a foul right outside the box resulted in a free kick shot that was blocked on the opportunity.
- Siena Heights first opportunity came in the 16th minutes as a long shot outside the box was saved by Cornerstones keeper Roberto Gutierrez.
- Tyler Corstange had a one-on-one opportunity against the Saints keeper in the 31st minute and his shot was blocked and saved as the match remained 1-0 in favor of Cornerstone.
- The Golden Eagles were fouled right outside the box again in the 35th minute as Jeff Herrema's free kick shot was saved by Siena Heights keeper.
- Cornerstone headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead over Siena Heights.
Second Half:
- The first shot of the second half belonged to Siena Heights as their shot sailed wide right of the goal.
- Off the deflections in the box, Tyler Corstange's shot slowly trickled into the goal to give Cornerstone a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute. That is also his second goal of the match.
- The match started to become a foul fest as Siena Heights and Cornerstone started to get chippy as a yellow card from the Saints brought the two teams together for some friendly banter.
- Off a foul in the 71st minute, the free kick in the box found the head of Tyler Corstange as his header was saved by the Saints keeper that resulted in a corner for the Golden Eagles.
- The defense of both teams held strong as with 10-minutes to go, the Golden Eagles remained in the lead 2-0.
- Cornerstone slams the door shut on this one as they win 2-0 thanks to two goals from Tyler Corstange.
