SYLVANIA, Ohio – Cornerstone traveled to Ohio in a middle of a West Michigan snowstorm to face off against Lourdes in a double header. Lourdes got the best of Cornerstone in game one, scoring seven in the sixth inning to beat the Golden Eagles 7-2. In game two, another seven-run inning from Lourdes proved to be the difference maker as the Golden Eagles fell in game two 14-2. Cornerstone falls to 5-18 (0-6) on the year as they play Lourdes two more games tomorrow afternoon.
Game One Highlights – Lourdes – 7 Cornerstone – 2
- Ben Barnes and Michael Ruiz reached base with one out in the top of the second. Andrew Eley would come through with single through the right side to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. Gannon Fox followed that with a single of his own to make it 2-0 after the second inning.
- Brody Nelson has kept the Gray Wolves off the board through three-innings as Cornerstone continues to lead 2-0.
- The Golden Eagles left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth as Lourdes got out of the jam.
- Lourdes opened the sixth inning with a double, but after a fielder's choice and a few walks, the Gray Wolves have the bases loaded with one out. The first run of the game for Lourdes came on a walk and they would follow that up with a fielder's choice to make it 2-2. Two doubles and a single later, Lourdes put up seven in the inning to take a 7-2 lead.
- Cornerstone goes down in order in the seventh to fall in game one 7-2.
Game Two Highlights – Lourdes – 14 Cornerstone – 2
- Drew Goodman worked around traffic in the first inning but kept Lourdes off the board as the game is scoreless after the first.
- Matthew Kindley opened the second inning with a triple but tried to go for the inside the park homerun but was caught in a run down to wipe away the triple. Ben Barnes had a single up the middle later in the inning but nothing else going for Cornerstone.
- After a hit by pitch and wild pitch, a single up the middle gives Lourdes a 1-0 lead in the third. Two batters later Lourdes hits a double to score two as they now lead 3-0. After a few more hits and a couple errors, Lourdes put up seven to take a 7-0 lead after the third inning.
- Lourdes opened the fourth inning reach base with their first two hitters and a sac fly and single sees Lourdes make it 9-0. A couple more hits for Lourdes has them leading 11-0 after the fourth inning.
- Two doubles in the bottom of the fifth for Lourdes has them leading 14-0 heading into the sixth inning.
- Cornerstone loaded the bases loaded thanks to a two out rally and hits from Corbin Westerkamp and Andrew Eley. Two runs would score for the Golden Eagles thanks to a dropped fly ball to make it 14-2 but that's all Cornerstone would muster as they fall in game two 14-2.
