Baseball sweeps UM-Dearborn to extend their win streak to four

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were back in action to start Easter weekend with a double header against Michigan-Dearborn. After falling early 4-0 in game one to UMD, Cornerstone answered with nine unanswered runs on their way to a 9-6 win. In game two, the Golden Eagles offense powered the way to a 15-11 win to move their win streak to four straight. Baseball is now 9-18 on the year as they will travel to Madonna for a double header starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 9 UM-Dearborn - 6
  • After an error by the Golden Eagles, there were runners on second and third with one out for UM-Dearborn. A single and a wild pitch later would give them a 2-0 lead. The next two batters would hit doubles to make it 4-0 after the top of the first.
  • JC Salinas opened the bottom of the first with a double off the left field wall and would score on a single from Matthew Kindley to make it a 4-1 game.
  • After a miscue from the UM-Dearborn outfielder, Corbin Westerkamp finds himself at second with an RBI double that scored Steve Hoeksema to make it 4-2. JC Salinas would hit his second double of the game that would score Westerkamp to make it 4-3 after the second inning.
  • Michigan-Dearborn opened the third with back-to-back doubles to extend their lead 5-3.
  • Singles from Andrew Meny and Matthew Kindley got the bottom of the third going as another single from the Golden Eagles, this time from Gannon Fox brought home Meny to make it 5-4. Ben Barnes would later tie the game on a sac fly as it is 5-5 after the third inning.
  • Three straight hits to open the fourth inning sees Drew Goodman bring two home on a single that gave Cornerstone their first lead of the game, 7-5. Lucas Vega would bring another run in with a single into right field as it is now an 8-5 CU lead headed into the fifth.
  • Brody Nelson has settled into a nice rhythm since the first inning putting another zero on the board in the fifth.
  • Corbin Westerkamp finds open space for his third hit of the day that would bring in another run to make it 9-5 in the fifth inning.
  • Michigan-Dearborn hits two doubles in the top of the seventh to make it 9-6 but Levi Heerema would limit the damage as Cornerstone would win game one 9-6.
