DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Golden Eagles earn a split on the second to last day in Florida. Cornerstone won the pitching duel in game one, exploding for five runs in the 12
th inning to win 5-1 over Morningside. Valley City got the best of CU in the second game with an offensive outburst, winning 14-4. Baseball has just one final day left as they take on Trinity Baptist for a doubler header starting at 3:30 p.m tomorrow afternoon.
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 5 Morningside - 1
- Brody Nelson worked an efficient first inning to keep the game scoreless after one.
- Both pitchers are in a nice groove to start the game as Brody Nelson strikes out a pair to end the second inning.
- The game remains scoreless after three innings as Nelson works another 1-2-3 inning.
- Nelson is dealing for the Golden Eagles, recording another strikeout as the game is scoreless after four.
- Ethan Lajiness gets his second hit of the game for Cornerstone, but that's all that the Golden Eagles could muster as it is 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
- Another 1-2-3 inning from Brody Nelson as the game heads into the sixth inning scoreless.
- Morningside gets their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth and that is all they would get as the game heads into the final inning tied 0-0.
- Morningside had some traffic in the bottom of the seventh, but a nice defensive play by the Golden Eagles gunned the runner at home and Levi Heerema struck out the next batter to force extra innings.
- The game heads into the ninth inning as both teams pitching has shut down the offense of the other.
- Extra inning baseball, the game heads into the 10th with both teams tied at 0.
- Pitching battle continues as the games head to the 11th inning scoreless.
- Cam VanPutten works a scoreless inning to make this on head to the 12th.
- The Golden Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 12th, thanks to a single and two free passes. JC Salinas comes through with the first runs of the game with a two RBI single to give Cornerstone a 2-0 lead. A single from Andrew Eley brings home another, making it 3-0. Andrew Meny brings two more home with single as Cornerstone has put up a crooked number, leading 5-0.
- Morningside tacks on a run but it isn't enough as VanPutten shuts the door as Cornerstone wins 5-1.
Game Two Highlights – Valley City – 14 Cornerstone - 4
- Valley City gets on the board in the top of the first with a two-out rally to take a 2-0 lead,
- The Vikings strung together a few more hits in the second inning scoring two more to take a 4-0 lead.
- Valley City hits a two-out triple and a double to score another three runs as they have extended their lead 7-0.
- The Vikings loaded the bases full of Golden Eagles with walks in the bottom of the third and scored one on a hit by pitch from Drew Goodman to make it 7-1. Gannon Fox gets the first hit of the game for CU with an infield single to make it 7-2.
- After a two out single from Lucas Vega, Andrew Meny clears the bases with a double down the left field line to make it a 7-4 game after the fourth inning.
- After walking the bases loaded, the Vikings brought a run home on a wild pitch to make it 8-4. A ground rule double would later make it 10-4.
- Valley City adds one more as the game heads into the seventh, Vikings lead 11-4.
- The Vikings beat the Golden Eagles 14-4
