Lucas Vega with 11 runs as Vega would go the distance with eight strikeouts for the first shutout victory of the year, 11-0. In the second game Trinity Baptist took advantage of Cornerstones free bases to score six in the top of the first on their way to a 10-0 victory over the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone returns to Michigan to start conference play against Siena Heights on Friday, March 15 for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 11 Trinity Baptist - 0
- The Golden Eagles strike first in this game as after a double from Drew Goodman made it second and third, Matthew Kindley brought one home with an RBI groundout to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. Ethan Lajiness would bring home another with a single up the middle to make it 2-0.
- Lucas Vega worked a clean bottom of the first with a pair of strikeouts to keep Cornerstone in the lead 2-0 after one inning.
- After a few base runners for the Golden Eagles, Matthew Kindley brings them all home with a long homerun over the right field fence to make it 5-0 in the top of the third.
- Lucas Vega worked around a bases loaded jam thanks to a pair of strikeouts to keep Trinity Baptist off the board after three.
- JC Salinas brings another home for the Golden Eagles with a single through the right side to make it 6-0 with runners on first and third and one out.
- Lucas Vega worked another quick 1-2-3 inning as Cornerstone leads 6-0 heading into the sixth.
- Ethan Lajiness singles up the middle to bring JC Salinas home to extend the lead 7-0 in the sixth.
- Gannon Fox and Michael Ruiz opened the seventh with back-to-back singles to make it first and third and nobody out. Steve Hoeksema would come home on a wild pitch and Andrew Eley would bring home another on a sac fly to make it 9-0. Cornerstone would tack on two more to make it 11-0.
- Lucas Vega would finish the complete game as Cornerstone wins 11-0.
Game Two Highlights – Trinity Baptist – 10 – Cornerstone - 0
- After walking and hitting the bases loaded, a walk and another hit by pitch gave Trinity Baptist a 2-0. After a few more walks and some batted balls, Trinity now leads 6-0 after the top of the first.
- Trinity Baptist adds one more in the top of the third with a double down the left field line to make it 7-0. A batter later, it is now 8-0 as TBC has blown this game open in the third.
- Nothing going for the Golden Eagles offense as they have just one hit through three innings of play.
- Cornerstone left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth as Trinity Baptist continues to lead 8-0 heading into the fifth.
- Trinity Baptist strings together a few hits and scores two more to take a 10-0 advantage over the Golden Eagles in the fifth.
- Rafael Blom and Alex Hayward post scoreless relief outings in the sixth and seventh inning to keep the game at 10-0.
- Trinity Baptist beats Cornerstone 10-0.
