UTICA, Mich. – Baseball traveled to Utica, Michigan to take on Lawrence Tech at Jimmy John's Field and struggled against the pitching of the Blue Devils in a double header sweep. Lawrence Tech jumped out early in game one thanks to a homerun and never looked back in a 5-1 game one victory. In game two, Lawrence Tech's starter shut down the bats of Cornerstone as they just had two hits for the game as he struck out 16 batters in a 10-0 game two loss. Baseball will be right back in action on Friday, April 26 as they travel to Indiana Tech for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Lawrence Tech – 5 Cornerstone - 1
- Lawrence Tech scored first in the bottom of the first on a double steal to take a 1-0 lead.
- After throwing out the runner at third, Lawrence Tech would hit a two out two run homerun a few pitches later to take a 3-0 lead over Cornerstone in the bottom of the third.
- The Golden Eagles would score one right back in the top of the fourth thanks to an error by the Blue Devils to make it 3-1.
- Cornerstone would strand a runner in the top of the fifth after a great defensive play by the Blue Devils robs the Golden Eagles of an extra base hit. Lawrence Tech continues to lead 3-1.
- Back-to-back hits with runners on base sees Lawrence Tech extend their lead 5-1 over the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the sixth.
- Lawrence Tech closed out game one with a 5-1 victory.
Game Two Highlights – Lawrence Tech 10 – Cornerstone – 0
- Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech is through two innings of scoreless baseball as both pitchers have settled in to start the game.
- The Golden Eagles stranded a runner on second in the top of the fourth as the game remains 0-0.
- Lawrence Tech got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs, a single through the right side scored another as they have extended their lead 2-0.
- Cornerstone walked the bases loaded for Lawrence Tech with no outs to start the bottom of the sixth as a single would bring in one to make it 3-0. A hit by pitch and a walk makes it 5-0, still with nobody out in the sixth. A double and a single later makes it a 8-0 lead for Lawrence Tech after the sixth inning.
- Ben Barnes singled in the top of the seventh as that was all that was going for the Golden Eagles as they mustered up just two hits as Lawrence Tech would score two more in the bottom of the seventh to win 10-0.
