Baseball falls to Indiana Tech to open the final weekend of the regular season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball traveled to Indiana Tech for the final weekend of the regular season for a double header. Indiana Tech scored early and capitalized on a six-run inning on their way to a 10-4 game one victory. In game two, Indiana Tech used another six-run inning to jump out to a 7-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles fought back, tying the game in the eighth inning thanks to a bases clearing double from Drew Goodman. Yet, Indiana Tech would win it on a walk off walk 8-7 to sweep the double header. Cornerstone falls to 19-28 (14-16) on the year as they will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon for a rematch against Indiana Tech.
 
Game One Highlights – Indiana Tech – 10 Cornerstone – 4
  • A double and then a one out single for Indiana Tech put them up early 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Another double and a sac fly later gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead heading into the second inning.
  • Gannon Fox recorded the first hit of the game for the Golden Eagles in the top of the third but didn't advance as Indiana Tech continues to lead 3-0 after the third inning.
  • Indiana Tech tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice to make it 4-0 after the fourth inning.
  • The Warriors loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with no outs. A double would clear the bases scoring three as Indiana Tech has extended their lead 7-0. A single and a few walks later, Indiana Tech has made it a 9-0 advantage as there are still no outs in the inning. Indiana Tech would add one more on a sac fly as they put up six runs in the fifth inning to make it 10-0.
  • Cornerstone loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with no one out. Ben Barnes would come through with a single into right field to score two to make it 10-2. JC Salinas would follow that up with a single of his own to make it 10-3 with nobody out in the inning. Michael Ruiz would add one more on a double, but the Golden Eagles would fall in game one 10-4.
 
Game Two Highlights – Indiana Tech – 8 Cornerstone - 7
  • Two walks and a catcher's interference loaded the bases for the Warriors in the bottom of the first. Indiana Tech would later score one on a sac fly to make it 1-0 after the first inning.
  • Lucas Vega opened the second inning with a single up the middle and would later score on a triple from JC Salinas to knot the game at one's in the top of the second. Ben Barnes would follow with a sac fly to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead.
  • Indiana Tech opened the bottom of the third with three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out. Two batters later, the Warriors took a 4-2 lead over Cornerstone. A few batters later, a double by Indiana Tech makes it a 7-2 game headed into the fourth.
  • The game remains 7-2 in favor of Indiana Tech after the sixth inning.
  • JC Salinas brought home his second run of the game with an RBI single into centerfield to make it 7-3 in the seventh.
  • The Golden Eagles would score one with two outs thanks to an error by Indiana Tech to make it 7-4. Drew Goodman would follow that with a bases clearing double to tie the game 7-7 in the top of the eighth.
  • The game heads into extra innings as Cornerstone would keep the bats quiet as it remains 7-7.
  • Indiana Tech loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th with no outs. The Warriors would go on to win game two on a walk off walk to take it 8-7.
