GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone Baseball returned home to face off against Cleary for a double header. Cornerstone opened the first game riding the hot hand of starting pitcher
Brody Nelson, who went the distance pitching all seven innings to help the Golden Eagles to a 4-0 victory. In game two, Cleary was a pest at the plate scoring in five straight innings on their way to a 10-1 victory, ending the Golden Eagle seven game win streak. Baseball will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon for another double header against these Cleary Cougars starting at 1 p.m.
Game One Highlights – Cornerstone – 4 Cleary - 0
- Andrew Meny opens the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a long homerun to left field to give Cornerstone a 2-0 lead. Andrew Eley would come through with a two out RBI single up the middle to make it 4-0 after the first inning.
- Brody Nelson is through three innings of scoreless baseball allowing just one hit as he has everything going in his arsenal.
- Brody Nelson got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth with an inning ending double play to keep Cleary off the board as Cornerstone continues to lead 4-0.
- Cornerstone loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth and Cleary got out of it with an inning ending double play to keep it 4-0 heading into the sixth inning.
- Brody Nelson goes the distance, pitching all seven innings while giving up three hits to give Cornerstone a game one victory, 4-0.
Game Two Highlights – Cleary 10 – Cornerstone - 1
- Cleary gets on the board in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle to take a 1-0 lead.
- Cleary took advantage of two hit batters on their way to scoring another run to extend their lead 2-0 in the second.
- Three straight hits from the Cougars sees them add another run, making it 3-0. Cornerstone would walk in another run to make it 4-0 after the top of the third.
- It continues to be all Cleary in game two, as they add on another run on a double to make it 5-0 in the fourth. Another Cougar hit brings in another run to make it 6-0. Cleary continues to extend the fourth inning, this time a walk and a hit by pinch brings it to an 8-0 game.
- After loading the bases in the fifth inning, Cleary brought home one on a sac fly to make it 9-0.
- Matthew Kindley scores the first run of the game for the Golden Eagles with a solo homerun over the right field fence to make it 9-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
- Pitchers for both Cleary and Cornerstone has started to settle in as the game heads into the eighth inning with the Cougars leading 9-1.
- A triple leads to a sac fly for Cleary as they extend their lead 10-1.
- Cleary shuts the down in game two to salvage a split, winning 10-1.
