FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Women's Volleyball was back in action with a conference matchup against Indiana Tech, but the Golden Eagles would fall short in four sets, 3-1 (29-31, 15-25, 25-20, 18-25). This is the first conference loss of the year for Cornerstone as they fall to 7-4 (1-1) on the year as they will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a matchup against UNOH at 2 p.m.
Game One Recap – Indiana Tech – 3 Cornerstone – 1 (29-31, 15-25, 25-20, 18-25)
First Set: Indiana Tech – 31 Cornerstone – 29
- Alli Pickard got the set started with a service ace to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone and Indiana Tech battled back-and-forth as a kill from Gabby VerBerkmoes makes it 5-5.
- A 6-1 run by the Golden Eagles forced Indiana Tech into a timeout as they now lead 11-7 after a kill from Aubrey Lenz.
- The Warriors have slowly started to chip away at the Golden Eagle lead but a block from Gabby VerBerkmoes and Jada Thomas makes it 15-13.
- A 4-1 run by Cornerstone sees them extend their lead 20-14 thanks to a kill from Emmalee Murphy.
- Indiana Tech has completely flipped the momentum as they rattled off six straight points to take a 23-21 lead to force Cornerstone to use their final timeout.
- Yet, a 3-1 run by Cornerstone forced extra points as it is now tie 24-24.
- Cornerstone and Indiana Tech continued to go back and forth but a block from Gabby VerBerkmoes and Jada Thomas has the Golden Eagles in the lead 29-28.
- Indiana Tech finished the set with three straight points to take a 31-29 victory in a long set one.
Second Set: Indiana Tech – 25 Cornerstone – 15
- Cornerstone opened the second set with three straight points thanks to a kill from Emmalee Murphy and Gabby VerBerkmoes with a service ace from Payton Hutchinson.
- Indiana Tech rattled off five straight points to take a 10-7 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- A kill from Emmalee Murphy and Kylie Barron cuts into the Warrior lead 11-9.
- A service ace from the Warriors forced Cornerstone to use a timeout as they lead 17-12.
- The Warriors take the second set 25-15.
Third Set:
Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 20
- Cornerstone opened the third set on a 5-0 run thanks to back-to-back kills from Emmalee Murphy.
- It continued to be all Cornerstone in the second set as Indiana Tech called a timeout as the Golden Eagles lead 9-4.
- Indiana Tech forced Cornerstone to call a timeout thanks to a 4-0 run that made it 12-9.
- The Warriors made it a one-point match but kills from Emmalee Murphy and Dyllan Hanna made it 18-15 late in the third set.
- A kill from Kylie Barron and a service ace from Alli Pickard made it a 23-19 match.
- Back-to-back attack errors from Indiana Tech gave Cornerstone a 25-20 third set victory.
Fourth Set: Indiana Tech – 25 Cornerstone – 18
- For the third set in a row, the Golden Eagles opened the set on a 4-1 run after a kill from Dyllan Hanna and Emmalee Murphy.
- Another kill from Dyllan Hanna and an error from Indiana Tech gave Cornerstone a 9-5 advantage.
- Indiana Tech goes on a 5-2 run to cut into Cornerstones lead 11-10.
- An Aubrey Lenz service ace helps Cornerstone retake the lead 15-14.
- Three straight kills from the Golden Eagles forced Indiana Tech to call a timeout as they lead 18-17 late in the fourth set.
- Indiana Tech closed the fourth set on an 8-0 run to take the set 25-18 and set 3-1.
