ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened conference play in strong fashion with a 2-0 victory over Concordia.
Tyler Corstange started the match off in a flash scoring just 11 seconds into the contest.
Grant Roloff put on a passing masterclass as he assisted both goal scorers in the match. The Golden Eagles stay on the road as they head to Calvin on Wednesday September 18
th for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Concordia - 0
First Half:
- The Golden eagles did not hold back to start the match after Tyler Corstange scored in 11 seconds to give them the early 1-0 lead.
- Tyler Corstange looked to add another goal for the Golden Eagles but his shot was saved in the 21st minute.
- Roberto Gutierrez made a crucial save in the 27th minute to keep the Golden Eagles 1-0 advantage in the match.
- The conference matchup guaranteed a physical battle which started with a yellow card from Eli Leegwater in the 35thminute and another yellow card in the 44th minute given to Grant Roloff.
- Cornerstone maintained their 1-0 lead as they entered halftime.
Second Half:
- Calvin Curtis forced an early second half save from the Cardinals in the 46th minute but the match remained at 1-0.
- Cornerstone made it 2-0 in the 68th minute thanks to Ajani Vaughn who scored which gave the Golden Eagles some cushion for the rest of the match.
- The Cardinals looked to respond but only took two more shots throughout the remainder of the match neither finding the back of the net.
- The Golden Eagles secured the shutout and first conference victory of the season with a 2-0 win.
