Men's Soccer falls to #17 Indiana Tech despite multiple red cards in the match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles had their hands full in a tough physical matchup against ranked Indiana Tech. Cornerstone lost the match 2-0 in strange fashion as the Indiana Tech lineup was reduced to nine men throughout most the game thanks to a couple of red cards. The Golden Eagles were able to hold the Warriors to a scoreless first half but ultimately could not find an answer for two second half goals from Indiana Tech. The Golden Eagles will be back in action at home facing another WHAC opponent in Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday September 25th at 7 p.m. 

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 #17 Indiana Tech - 2

First Half:
  • Indiana Tech looked to use set pieces well with three early corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the match, but the score remained 0-0. 
  • The Warriors physical play led to the first yellow card of the match on Andreas Michael. 
  • Roberto Gutierrez made a crucial one on one save to deny Indiana Tech and kept the match level in the 30th minute then just three minutes later made another huge save off a dangerous corner kick attack. 
  • The Warriors Tahj Hylton committed a tough foul and was given a red card which brought Indiana Tech down to 10 men in the 37th minute. 
  • Both teams were unable to find a first half goal which kept the match scoreless at the break. 
Second Half:
  • The Warriors continued to look for the opening goal with heavy possession but still the game remained scoreless after 10 minutes of the second half. 
  • The Golden Eagles committed a foul just outside the box but the free kick effort by the Warriors sailed over the goal which left the match 0-0 in the 60th minute. 
  • Indiana Tech broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute with a goal from Gui Moreira.
  • The physical match continued with another intense foul that led to another red card for the Warriors taking them down to nine men in the match in the 64th minute. 
  • Cornerstone looked for the equalizer with heavy pressure, but the match remained 1-0 in the 76th minute. 
  • Cornerstone gave up a penalty kick in the 82nd minute which was converted by Liam Arthur of Indiana Tech which gave them a 2-0 lead. 
  • The match finished at 2-0 which gave Indiana Tech the win despite playing with nine men for most of the second half. 
By The Numbers
2 – Two red cards were given in the match both to Indiana Tech which forced them to play with nine men for most of the second half.
7 – Seven yellow cards were also given in the match. 
10 – Indiana Tech tallied 10 corner kicks in the match which led to their success late in the contest.
