GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Women's Volleyball returned home to face off against Madonna and came away with another sweep at home. It was a consistent attack by the Golden Eagles that proved to be the difference maker as they hit .216 for the match behind
Aubrey Johnson's 13 kills while Madonna hit just .084. Cornerstone moves to 10-6 (4-3) on the year as they will hit the road to take on Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, October 2 to begin a tough road stretch.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Madonna – 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Madonna - 19
- Madonna jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to open the first set thanks to two Golden Eagle attack errors.
- The Golden Eagles responded nicely with a 4-1 run to tie it at four after kills from Aubrey Johnson and Emmalee Murphy.
- Cornerstone and Madonna continued to trade points as a kill from Emmalee Murphy made it 9-9.
- The Golden Eagles started to find some momentum as a kill from Aubrey Johnson and some attack errors from the Crusaders made it 13-10 Cornerstone.
- Madonna continued to stick around as three-straight points tied it at 16 halfway through the first set.
- Some miscommunication by the Golden Eagles forced them to call a timeout as Madonna scored three straight points to tie it at 19.
- Right out of the timeout, Madonna struggled to attack as three straight errors gave Cornerstone a 22-19 advantage.
- The Golden Eagles would take set one 25-19 after two Aubrey Lenz service aces and a kill from Jada Thomas.
Second Set:
Cornerstone – 25 Madonna - 19
- Cornerstone opened the second set on a 3-1 run thanks to kills from Kylie Barron and Gabby VerBerkmoes.
- A nice run by Madonna sees them take a 5-4 lead over the Golden Eagles early in set two.
- Madonna continued to hold onto their lead as kills from Hannah Keenan and Alyviah Wright made it 9-7.
- Cornerstone battled back to knot the set at 12 after an Aubrey Johnson kill.
- A block and kill by Kylie Barron forced Madonna to use their first timeout as the Golden Eagles now lead 15-12.
- Cornerstone continued to extend their lead as Emmalee Murphy found some open space for a kill to make it 19-14.
- Alli Pickard added a service ace as Cornerstone is two points away from a 2-0 lead.
- A kill from Aubrey Johnson and a service ace from Emma Whitley closes out the second set in a 25-19 Cornerstone victory.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Madonna - 19
- Like the second set, Cornerstone opened the fourth set on a 4-1 run thanks to service ace from Ava Ford and a kill from Kylie Barron.
- The Golden Eagles continued to extend their lead as a kill from Aubrey Johnson and Kylie Barron made it 7-2.
- Madonna was forced to call a timeout as a kill from Jada Thomas was followed by an Alli Pickard service ace to make it 13-6.
- The Crusaders have gone on a quick run to cut into the Golden Eagle lead 15-11.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes powers one down as the Golden Eagles lead 19-12. A few points away from a third set victory.
- Cornerstone closed out the third set strong with a 25-19 victory thanks to back-to-back kills from Aubrey Johnson.
