Cynthia Philip hired as the new Competitive Cheer Coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Director of Athletics, Aaron Sagraves is excited to announce the hiring of Cynthia Philip as the new Competitive Cheer coach for the 2024-25 year. The sideline cheer program, will be moving to competitive cheer this year and will have their first competitions starting in the 2025-26 athletic year. 

Director of Athletics, Aaron Sagraves had this to say about Cynthia, "Cynthia has a passion for Jesus, a passion for cheer, and a passion for Cornerstone that all come together and I'm excited to see how she builds the program! The impact this can have on the CU campus with their energy and joy is something Cynthia will lean into in a big way."

Cynthia, attended and graduated from Cornerstone in 2002 with a Bachelor of Art in Communication where she was also a cheerleader. She went back to school to receive her Masters in Art in Educational Leadership from Cornerstone in 2014. 

When asked about the position, Cynthia stated, "I am so thankful and excited to have been chosen to lead this team on the journey from sideline cheer to competitive cheer. Having been a cheerleader for Cornerstone a few minutes ago, I feel blessed to be able to come back and support this team in their walk with Christ, in their academic goals, and in their commitment to building a new kind of cheer team for the Golden Eagles. I'm truly honored to become a part of the CU Coaching Crew and can't wait to see what God has in store!"

Cynthia and her husband Russell have five children with two of them currently attending Cornerstone.
