Dearborn, Mich. – Women's Volleyball was back in action for their first WHAC conference matchup of the season against Michigan-Dearborn. Cornerstone completed a sweep over the Wolverines with a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-18, 25-20).
Aubrey Johnson led the Golden Eagles with 15 kills in the match that secured the victory for Cornerstone. Women's Volleyball will return home for the AQ/CU Invitational as they take on St. Francis at 7 p.m. Friday, September 6.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Michigan Dearborn – 0
Set One:
- Emma Whitley started off the match strong with an early ace giving the Golden Eagles a 4-2 advantage.
- Kylie Barron and Emmalee Murphy both found dominant kills in the first set to keep the pressure on the Wolverines.
- Cornerstone went on a three-point run to force Michigan Dearborn into the first timeout of the match at 14-10.
- Kylie Barron showed up big in the first set from blocks to kills which gave Cornerstone the 25-15 set win.
Set Two:
- The Wolverines started the second set hot with a 5-2 advantage over the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone found themselves behind in the second but began to fight back to earn a 20-18 late lead.
- Aubrey Johnson led the way with five kills in the second set for the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone cruised to a second set victory with a score of 25-18 to give them the 2-0 set lead in the match.
Set Three:
- The third set began with back-and-forth efforts from both teams, but the Wolverines took a 2-0 early lead.
- Cornerstone battled back from being down 12-9 in the set after a well-used timeout by coach Megan Lenhart that gave them a 16-15 lead.
- Michigan-Dearborn called their second timeout of the set and looked to weather the storm being down 23-19.
- Cornerstone completed the sweep in a match that only saw three sets which gave them their first WHAC victory of the season.
