Chicago, Ill. – Men's Soccer faced off against the Cougars of Saint Xavier which proved to be a highly competitive match as it finished 1-1.
Tyler Corstange scored his second goal of the season to help Cornerstone earn the draw. The Golden Eagles head on the road for their first WHAC conference matchup of the season against Concordia on Saturday September 14
th for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Saint Xavier – 1
First Half:
- Saint Xavier found the first corner kick of the match but came up empty against a stout Cornerstone clearance.
- Roberto Gutierrez made the first save of the match in the seventh minute to keep the match level early.
- Jake Madak header in the 18th minute forced the first save from the Cougars.
- Jeff Herrema free kick shot in the 30th minute nearly gave Cornerstone the lead, but the match remained at 0-0.
- Strong defensive efforts from both sides was the story of the first half which kept the match scoreless.
Second Half:
- Saint Xavier started the second half strong with two quick corner kicks within the first 15 minutes of the half.
- The defensive effort from Cornerstone could not hold up as Saint Xavier found the back of the net in the 68th minute with a goal from Rodrigo Hernandez.
- The Golden Eagles looked for some possession late in the half in hopes to find an equalizer.
- Tyler Corstange equalized late for the Golden Eagles with a goal in the 84th minute.
- Both teams looked for a late winner, but the match finished 1-1.
