Men’s Basketball holds on late to take down Siena Heights 67-65 on the road

Adrian, Mich. – Men's Basketball found their first victory of the new year on the road against Siena Heights. The Saints hung around nearly the entire game, but Cornerstone stellar three-point shooters made the difference down the stretch as the Golden Eagles shot 45% from behind the arc. Jack Joldersma led the way for the Golden Eagles with 17 points as Mason Brooks was right behind him with 14 of his own. Toby Woolcock also posted a strong game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists that helped Cornerstone to the victory. The Golden Eagles move to 10-7 (6-3) on the season as they head home for their next matchup against Concordia on Wednesday, January 15 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

First Half
  • The first bucket of the game came thanks to Jack Joldersma off a strong drive and finish after being fouled which he converted into the three-point play. 
  • Mason Brooks found an easy two at the rim, but the Saints answered right back with buckets of their own to tie the game at 5-5 with 17 minutes left to play.
  • Jack Joldersma tallied his fifth point of the game off another easy two-point bucket to give Cornerstone an early two-point lead. 
  • Siena Heights flipped the script just minutes later with back-to-back buckets which gave them their first lead of the game at 9-7 with 14 minutes on the clock. 
  • The Saints continued their hot stretch with two more buckets and extended their early lead to six points. 
  • Kayden Bird picked up right where we left off and knocked down the next bucket of the game with a three pointer that brought the score to 13-10 with 12 minutes left in the first half. 
  • Toby Woolcock and Mason Brooks added to the scoring for the Golden Eagles as both teams battled back and forth with the game tied at 15-15. 
  • Blake Stewart used his pace down the floor as he finished a strong bucket to regain the Cornerstone lead at 19-18 with eight minutes left to play in the half. 
  • Toby Woolcock tossed a perfect full court pass to set up Jack Joldersma for another easy bucket and extended Cornerstones lead to 22-19 with six minutes left to play. 
  • Luke Rowlinson and Andy Mora added their names to the scorer's sheet which helped the Golden Eagles reach their largest lead of the first half with a six-point advantage. 
  • Siena Heights remained chippy in this game as they only trailed 27-25 with two minutes left in the first half. 
  • Toby Woolcock knocked down a three pointer for the Golden Eagles and at the other end had a big-time block to keep Cornerstone in charge with only a minute left to play. 
  • Mason Brooks tough fade away post move closed out a strong run for the Golden Eagles as they led the Saints 34-25 at the halftime buzzer. 
Second Half
  • Siena Heights started the second half off with two made free throws to pull within seven points as they looked to get back into the game. 
  • The next possession down the floor for the Saints resulted in a smooth drive and dunk which gave the home team the much-needed momentum. 
  • Cornerstone was forced into a timeout after the slow start as Siena Heights closed the nine-point gap in just three minutes to tie the game at 34-34. 
  • Luke Rowlinson knocked down a three pointer for the Golden Eagles to finally get the scoring started in the second half with 15 minutes left to play. 
  • Mason Brooks tallied his ninth point of the game that helped Cornerstone to a 39-36 lead with 13 minutes left to play. 
  • Blake Stewart came up big with a three-point play after being fouled on his way to the bucket which gave Cornerstone a four-point lead with 11 minutes left on the clock. 
  • Kayden Bird knocked down a triple to slow the momentum of the home team and extended the lead to 45-40 with ten minutes left in the contest. 
  • The Saints answered back again with a four-point run but Jack Joldersma knocked down two more free throws to keep the Cornerstone lead intact with nine minutes left to play. 
  • Luke Rowlinson and Toby Woolcock splashed three pointers when Cornerstone needed it most which gave them a 53-46 lead as they entered the last stretch of the game. 
  • The three-point shot continued to push Cornerstone closer to the victory as Mason Brooks made the score 56-49 with five minutes left to play. 
  • Jack Joldersma continued his strong day at he posted his 14th point thanks to the bucket and the foul as Cornerstone held a seven-point lead with three minutes left on the clock. 
  • Toby Woolcock and Jack Joldersma continued to shine for the Golden Eagles as they answered the Saints buckets with points of their own to keep the Cornerstone lead with two minutes to play.
  • Cornerstone battled to the end and hung on for the 67-65 victory to pick up their first win of the new year.
