Fort Wayne, Ind. – Women's Volleyball traveled south to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors. The match looked to be in the hands of the Golden Eagles early after the first set win, but Cornerstone dropped the next three sets as they fell 3-1 in the match. The Golden Eagles continue conference play on Friday, October 24
th at 7:00 against Defiance College.
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 1 Indiana Tech – 3 (27-25, 15-25, 22-25, 19-25)
First Set: Cornerstone – 27 Indiana Tech – 25
- The strong start to the match belonged to the Warriors as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
- Cornerstone fought back quickly through Gabby VerBerkmoes as she found a strong kill to give CU a 6-5 lead.
- Gwyn VerBerkmoes collected a pair of kills to tie the set at 9-9 as it was back and forth between both squads.
- The Warriors began to take control once again as they reached a four-point advantage headed into the final stretch of the first set.
- Cornerstone continued to fight their way back in the set as they eventually forced extra points to decide this pivotal first set.
- Josilyn Potter and the Golden Eagles took advantage late to steal the first set from the Warriors.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 15 Indiana Tech – 25
- Indiana Tech found another quick start as they reached a 5-0 advantage playing with some momentum after dropping set one.
- Cornerstone simply had no answer for the Warriors as they continued to extend their lead to 16-5.
- The Golden Eagles cut the lead to within five points, but Indiana Tech ran away with a 25-15 set win to tie the match at 1-1.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 22 Indiana Tech – 25
- The Golden Eagles responded well to start the third set as they gained a 3-0 advantage after a Gabby VerBerkmoes kill.
- Aubrey Johnson got going in this set with a smooth swing that earned her a kill and a Cornerstone 11-5 lead.
- Indiana Tech got into a groove down the stretch of this set and managed to flip the script over the Golden Eagles as they led 19-17 in a pivotal third set.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes continued to dominant when her number was called as she found three big kills, but the Golden Eagles still trailed 22-20.
- Indiana Tech took advantage of their opportunity and walked away with the third set win and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 19 Indiana Tech – 25
- It was a similar story to the start the fourth set as the Warriors got started fast with a 4-2 lead.
- Gwyn VerBerkmoes and Josilyn Potter gathered a pair of kills for the Golden Eagles to take a much-needed lead in the fourth set at 10-9.
- The Golden Eagles continued the pressure as they forced the Warriors into a timeout up 12-9.
- Indiana Tech took advantage of their timeout as they bounced back fast to tie the match at 15-15.
- The Warriors continued to press forward in this set as they stretched the lead too far for the Golden Eagles as they took the match 3-1.
