Livonia, Mich. – Men's Soccer (7-9) battled against #17 Madonna University for a conference matchup on Saturday, October 25th. The Golden Eagles generated good opportunities but were held scoreless in the 2-0 loss. Cornerstone finishes the regular season in seventh place in the conference and will play in WHAC tournament on Saturday, November 1st with the time to still be determined.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Madonna – 2
First Half:
- The match started off with two fouls on Madonna and one by Cornerstone.
- CU was awarded a penalty shot in the fifth minute; Tyler Corstange sent the shot wide of net keeping it a 0-0 match.
- Madonna found the back of the goal in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Cornerstone took three corner kicks between the 20th and 21st minute which led to a shot and header that just missed the frame.
- Multiple fouls from both teams closed out the first half.
Second Half:
- The second half began much like the first with both Madonna and CU receiving two fouls each.
- Madonna was given a penalty kick in the 54th minute and the shot from MU's Jordy Lopez was saved by Roberto Gutierrez.
- In the 61st minute the Golden Eagles got a scoring chance off a header from Shane Renshaw that was saved by the Crusaders goalkeeper.
- Just after that scoring chance Cornerstone's Eli Leegwater was given a yellow card.
- Another yellow card was handed out to the Golden Eagles this time to Mason Heyboer which then led to another Madonna goal in the 70th minute.
