Men’s Soccer Allows Three First Half Goals as They Fall to UNOH

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Soccer went to work against WHAC conference opponent UNOH but was unable to keep the pace as they suffered a 3-0 defeat in front of their home crowd. The Golden Eagles put together nine total shots in the match but none of them posed as fatal as they were shutout by the Racers. Cornerstone will look to regroup and prepare for another home match on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. against Siena Heights. 
 
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 UNOH – 3
 
First Half:
  • The first half started well for the Racers as they found a corner kick in the first two minutes of the match. 
  • UNOH secured the first goal of the match in the 7th minute from Reece Benjamin as Cornerstone defenders could not close down a fast Racers offense. 
  • Calvin Curtis forced a save just a minute later but Cornerstone could not find the equalizer. 
  • The Racers doubled their first half lead in the 31st minute off a penalty kick as Gavan Bignall had his hard just too far from his body drawing the free shot. 
  • Cornerstone struggled to find an answer at the back as they let through the 3rd goal of the first half for UNOH in the 39th minute. 
  • The half came to an end with the score at 3-0 in favor of the visiting Racers. 
Second Half:
  • The first half begun with Ethan Hehl earning a yellow card in a near goal scoring opportunity, but he was just too aggressive running through the keeper and the ball. 
  • Calvin Curtis forced another save from the UNOH goalkeeper in the 56th minute yet the score remained at 3-0. 
  • Cornerstone earned a free kick in a dangerous area in the 65th minute causing chaos in the Racers box but they were alert enough to clear the danger. 
  • UNOH continued to put high pressure on the back line of Cornerstone yet the three first half goals continued to make the difference in the match. 
  • Seth Campbell nearly found the opening goal for Cornerstone late in the match, but his volley attempt just flew above the cross bar. 
  • The Golden Eagles first half ended up being their downfall as they dripped the match 3-0 to the Racers.

12 – The Golden Eagles also struggled in the corner kick battle as the Racers posted 12 to our 3.
