Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Volleyball takes down RV Walla Walla University in a five-set thriller with Mol Arena rocking! Cornerstone advances to the NAIA National Championship pool play which will take place in Iowa on December 3rd-5th with the national champion crowned on December 9th.
Josilyn Potter highlighted the Golden Eagles victory with 11 kills and five aces.
Game Recap – Cornerstone – 3 Walla Walla – 2 (25-15, 25-19, 18-25, 16-25, 15-5)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Walla Walla – 15
- The Golden Eagles started off the match taking a 7-1 lead which saw Josilyn Potter record two service aces.
- Kills by Aubrey Johnson and Gabby VerBerkmoes paired with another ace by Josilyn Potter grew Cornerstone's lead to 11-1.
- Multiple bad sets by Walla Walla extended CU's lead to 16-6.
- Aubrey Johnson got back-to-back kills to help make it 20-12 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
- Four attack errors from the Wolves helped Cornerstone secure a win in the first set 25-15.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Walla Walla – 19
- The second set started off as a back-and-forth battle as CU and Walla Walla were tied at three.
- Cornerstone then went on a three-point run highlighted by an ace from Olivia Endris.
- The Golden Eagles took a 15-8 lead as Walla Walla had a service and an attack error which was followed by an ace from Gianna Warwick.
- A block by Lauren Bower and Josilyn Potter extended the Cornerstone lead as they went up 20-15.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes ends the second set with a kill, securing Cornerstone a 25-19 win.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 18 Walla Walla – 25
- The third set began similar to the second with both teams going back-and-forth, making it a 6-6 match.
- Despite kills from Aubrey Johnson and Josilyn Potter, Walla Walla took a 12-9 lead.
- Walla Walla extended their lead to 19-12 as Cornerstone took their second timeout of the set.
- The Wolves take the third set by a score of 25-18.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 16 Walla Walla – 25
- Walla Walla got out to an early lead in the fourth set, going up 6-3.
- The Wolves extended their lead to 10-5, forcing Cornerstone to use their first timeout of the set.
- Cornerstone started to crawl their way back highlighted by a solo block by Lauren Bower and a block from Aubrey Johnson and Gabby VerBerkmoes to make 12-8.
- Walla Walla went on a run to extend their lead to 18-10.
- The Wolves take set four 25-16.
Fifth Set: Cornerstone – 15 Walla Walla – 5
- The Golden Eagles started off strong in the fifth set, taking a 3-0 lead and forcing Walla Walla to take a timeout.
- Cornerstone went on a four-point run highlighted by two kills from Aubrey Johnson leading to the Wolves taking their final timeout.
- A big block by Gabby VerBerkmoes put CU up 11-4.
- Back-to-back aces by Olivia Endris secure the five-set win for the Golden Eagles!
