Women's Volleyball Falls to Indiana Wesleyan in First Game of Pool Play

Sioux City, Iowa – Women's Volleyball loses hard fought battle against Indiana Wesleyan 3-0 in their first game of pool play at the NAIA WVB National Championship. Aubrey Johnson and Josilyn Potter led the Golden Eagles with nine kills each while Payton Hutchinson had 16 assists and six digs in the match. Cornerstone will play IU-Kokomo on Thursday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. EST for their final pool play matchup.

First Set: Cornerstone – 13 Indiana Wesleyan – 25 Second Set: Cornerstone – 20 Indiana Wesleyan – 25
  • The second set started with IWU taking an early 6-2 lead with Aubrey Johnson getting both kills.
  • Cornerstone went on a run to even it up at six with a kill and an ace from Josilyn Potter, a block by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Payton Hutchinson and then finished off with a kill by Aubrey Johnson.
  • The Golden Eagles stayed within three points as a kill from Emmalee Murphy and a couple attack errors by the Wildcats made it a 13-10 game in favor of IWU.
  • CU got back within one with three kills from Josilyn Potter to make it 17-16 game in favor of the Wildcats.
  • Despite their comeback efforts, Cornerstone dropped the second set to Indiana Wesleyan 25-20.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 18 Indiana Wesleyan – 25
  • The third set began with CU taking a 3-1 lead with kills from Aubrey Johnson, Josilyn Potter and Gabby VerBerkmoes.
  • Cornerstone grew their lead to 8-4 as IWU had three attack errors while Olivia Endris dropped in an ace.
  • Indiana Wesleyan crawled back into the game, but Aubrey Johnson regained the CU lead with a kill to make it 15-14.
  • IWU went on a seven-point run to take their first lead of the third set 22-17.
  • The Golden Eagles were able to grab another point but ultimately fell 25-18 in the third set.
By The Numbers:
9 – Josilyn Potter and Aubrey Johnson led the Golden Eagles with nine kills.
16/6 – Payton Hutchinson recorded 16 assists and six digs in the game.
 14 – Gianna Warwick had 14 digs in the match.
