Livonia, Mich. – The Golden Eagles traveled across the state for a matchup with an undefeated (3-0) WHAC conference battle against Madonna. Cornerstone struggled offensively to open the first half which told the story of the game as they were defeated 64-75. The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back with another conference matchup on Saturday, December 6
th at 3:00 p.m. against Cleary.
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 64 Madonna – 75
First Half
- The game started with both teams showing out on the defensive side of the ball, but Andy Mora found the first bucket of the game and gave Cornerstone a 2-1 lead after three minutes of play.
- Madonna responded well with some bully ball as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead.
- Colin Heyboer helped the Golden Eagles inch closer to leveling the game with the Crusaders off two back-to-back buckets.
- Kayden Bird and Tre Seydel both nailed triples but continued to find themselves down by a healthy margin at the six-minute mark of the first half.
- Madonna found yet another run with all the points coming from the paint as they led 38-24 with three minutes to play in the half.
- Andy Mora closed out the half with a strong bucket and foul which he converted into a three-point play, but Cornerstone still had work to do down 13 at the halfway point.
Second Half
- The second half started quickly for Cornerstone as Kayden Bird put down a pair of three pointers to open the half and cut the Crusaders lead in half.
- Joel Nichols got into a groove for the Golden Eagles putting together a quick six points to pull Cornerstone within four points at the 12-minute mark of the second half.
- Madonna went on a 10-point run just after the ten-minute point in the half and began to take full control of the Golden Eagles.
- The Crusaders managed to stretch their lead to a 16-point advantage with two minutes remaining in the game.
- Blake Stewart and Kayden Bird both found buckets in the final minutes of the game, but they were all consolation as Cornerstone fell 75-64.
