Men’s Basketball completes the season sweep over Defiance

Defiance, Ohio – Men's Basketball completed their season sweep over Defiance with a 67-49 victory on the road. Mason Brooks continued his impressive scoring stretch with 21 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Blake Stewart was right behind him with 17 points and 10 rebounds to secure another double-double. Luke Rowlinson also cashed in 14 points for the Golden Eagles. The boys move to 16-8 (12-4) on the season. Men's Basketball's next matchup comes inside of Mol Arena against Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. 
 
Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 67 Defiance – 49
 
First Half
  • Defiance started the game well with a 4-0 run thanks to an early aggressive gameplan. 
  • Blake Stewart responded quickly as he found a bucket after he slashed through the lane to make it 4-2. 
  • Mason Brooks rattled home the first three ball of the game and gave Cornerstone their first lead with 15 minutes left in the first half. 
  • The Yellow Jackets turned around and answered with a 7-0 run and took a 11-6 lead only a minute later. 
  • Mason Brooks and Blake Stewart added two more baskets for the Golden Eagles, yet they still trailed 15-12. 
  • Andy Mora found space on the open floor and scored on a fastbreak to cut the lead to one point with 11 minutes left on the clock. 
  • The sharpshooter Kayden Bird knocked down his first long ball of the first half to give Cornerstone the lead with nine minutes to play.
  • Luke Rowlinson came out of the media timeout fired up as he went on a 7-0 solo run with two three pointers in the stretch to give Cornerstone a 25-17 lead. 
  • Strong free throw shooting from the Golden Eagles secured a 29-21 lead at the halftime buzzer. 
Second Half
  • Cornerstone picked up where they left off as Mason Brooks and Luke Rowlinson scored quickly to open the second half. 
  • Mason Brooks nailed a three pointer to give Cornerstone a 10-point advantage with 15 minutes left in the game. 
  • Luke Rowlinson scored another three pointer for the Golden Eagles which gave them a 42-31 lead. 
  • Blake Stewart converted on a smooth pullup jumper, yet the Yellow Jackets continued to hang around only trailing by nine points. 
  • Mason Brooks strong bucket and the foul created another double-digit advantage for Cornerstone as they headed into the halfway mark of the second half. 
  • Defiance rallied back once again as they only trailed by seven points with eight minutes left to play. 
  • Connor Dykema went up high for the jam and Cornerstone never looked back after that highlight play. 
  • Scoring plays from Toby Woolcock and Blake Stewart sealed the 67-49 victory for the Golden Eagles on the road. 
By the Numbers 
16 – Cornerstone and Defiance both profited 16 points off turnovers in the game. 
44.4% – The Golden Eagles shot 44.4% from behind the arc compared to the Yellow Jackets 13.0%
48 – Cornerstone led the game in rebounds 48 to 30.
