Game Recap: Baseball | | @chance_jd

Baseball finished the day 1-1 in their second double-header of the week

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Baseball kicked off a windy day at the ballpark with a solid 9-6 win over Lawrence Tech to start the day. In game two the Golden Eagles could not piece together the chemistry they needed on the defensive end as they fell 21-11. Cornerstone will take the week to prepare for their next WHAC meeting against Lourdes on Friday, March 21st
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 9 Lawrence Tech – 6
  • It was a quick start for the Blue Devils as they tallied a quick three runs to start off the game. 
  • The Golden Eagles responded well thanks to another Matthew Kindley home run to help tie the game at 3-3 after the 1st inning. 
  • Grant DeRose kicked off the 2nd well with a base hit to start a strong Cornerstone inning. 
  • Drew Goodman helped the Golden Eagles reach a 7-3 advantage at the end of the 2nd inning after a strong double into center field. 
  • The Golden Eagles leaned on strong pitching from Steve Hoeksema in the 4th with multiple strikeouts as the home team still led. 
  • Cornerstone punched in another run to end the 4th inning as they led 8-4 headed into the second half of the game. 
  • The warm windy day got the best of the Golden Eagles defense in the 5th inning as some struggles allowed for Lawrence Tech to secure a couple runs but they still held an 8-6 advantage. 
  • Ryan McArthur came in to close out the game for the Golden Eagles and did so well as he struck out a couple batters to take the game final at 9-6 in game one of the double-header. 
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 11 Lawrence Tech – 21
  • Game two started with the Blue Devils driving in the first run of the game but the Golden Eagles responded well in the bottom of the 1st
  • Grant DeRose battled at the plate and doubled to lead off well for the home squad. 
  • Strong at bats for Cornerstone was the story of the inning as they led 3-1 after the 1st
  • Both teams through punches in the next couple innings yet the Golden Eagles held a 4-3 lead after the top of the 3rd inning. 
  • Michael Ruiz knocked one out of the park right down the left field line to boost Cornerstone to a 7-3 lead. 
  • In the top of the 5th inning the Blue Devils drove in five runs to regain the lead for the second time of the game with Cornerstone still looking for answers on the mound. 
  • DJ Phillips put together a strong rip to bring the game back to level terms at 8-8 at the end of the 5thinning. 
  • The next inning was one to forget for the Golden Eagles as the pitching changes multiplied which turned into a grand slam and a seven-run inning for Lawrence Tech to take a healthy 15-8 lead. 
  • Cornerstone managed to tally three more runs in the game which proved to not be enough as they fell 21-11 in game two of the double-header.
By the Numbers:
27 – Cornerstone was outscored 27 to 20 on the day against Lawrence Tech. 
7 – The Golden Eagles still search for their top man at the mound after pitching seven separate players in the double-header. 
8 – Cornerstone left eight runners on base in each game. 

What's Next?
The Golden Eagles continue their home stretch against Lourdes in another WHAC double-header on Friday, March 21st at 1:00 and 3:00.
