Dordt sneaks past Baseball 7-3

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Baseball returned to action with a solo game against Dordt this afternoon and came away with another tough loss 7-3. It was a great pitching duel through the first four innings before Dordt used a four-run fifth inning to sneak away from Cornerstone. Matthew Kindley hit his second homerun of the year to highlight the Golden Eagles offense as baseball now falls to 0-13 on the year. Cornerstone will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Northwestern at 12:15 p.m.

Game Recap: Dordt – 7 Cornerstone - 3
  • Dordt led off the game with a double and would later bring him home on a single to take an early 1-0 lead in the first.
  • After a Grant DeRose leadoff walk, Matthew Kindley pulled a homerun over the right field fence to give Cornerstone a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first.
  • Mason Leckrone has worked his second straight cleaning inning after the first as the Golden Eagles continued to lead 2-1.
  • The pitchers have dominated since the first inning as the game headed to the fifth with the Golden Eagles ahead 2-1.
  • Dordt executed a squeeze bunt to tie it at two in the top of the fifth as they are still threatening with a runner on first and third. The Defenders opened the inning with a three-run homerun to take a 5-2 lead over Cornerstone.
  • Thanks to a double steal, the Defenders would force a Golden Eagle error to extend their lead 6-2 in the top of the sixth. They would score another on a single to make it 7-2 as Cornerstone has a tall task at hand in the final two innings.
  • After back-to-back walks to open the inning, Jake Sewell would come through with a double into the left field corner to score a run to make it 7-3.
  • A great relay from Matthew Kindley to Andrew Eley to Jacob Sewell gunned the runner attempting to score as the game heads to the bottom of the seventh for one last chance for the Golden Eagles.
