UNOH Powers Past Baseball in a DH Sweep

 LIMA, Ohio – Baseball traveled to Ohio to take UNOH in a conference matchup originally slated to be played in Grand Rapids. It was a doubleheader that saw a ton of offense as UNOH put up 44 runs in their two blowout victories over Cornerstone. It just wasn't a good day for CU in the field as they had eight errors between both games leading to 26 unearned runs combined for the day. Baseball falls to 8-30 (8-14) on the year as they return home to honor their seniors tomorrow afternoon as they take on UM-Dearborn starting at 1 p.m.
 
Game One Recap: #RV UNOH – 25 Cornerstone – 2
  • UNOH scored first in the bottom of the first as they came through with a two-out RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Free bases came back to hurt the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the second as UNOH collected just one hit but scored four times to extend their lead 5-0.
  • UNOH would score again right away in the third as their two-run homerun made it 7-0. The second homerun of the inning for the Racers made it 10-0 as they still had zero outs in the third. UNOH would collect seven hits with two outs to score seven more runs as they lead big 17-0 over Cornerstone.
  • The bats haven't slowed down for UNOH as they strung together a few more hits to make it a 21-0 game. The Golden Eagles see themselves down three touchdowns after the fourth inning.
  • Corbin Westerkamp opened the fifth inning for Cornerstone with a homerun to get the Golden Eagles on the board. UNOH would instantly respond in the bottom of the fifth with a homerun of their own to make it 22-1.
  • Matthew Kindley joined in on the homerun party with a solo shot to make it 22-2.
  • UNOH would hit two more homeruns in the bottom of the sixth as the Golden Eagles find themselves down 25-2.
  • Game one has come to end for Cornerstone as they fell 25-2.
 
Game Two Recap: #RV UNOH – 19 Cornerstone – 7
  • Wasn't long before UNOH got on the board in game two as a couple hits saw them take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning.
  • Another long inning in the field for the Golden Eagles as a few errors led to six UNOH runs as it is now 8-0 after the second.
  • With two outs in the third, Mathew Kindley brought home a run with a double to make it an 8-1 game.
  • UNOH put up eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the third to make it a 16-1 game.
  • Cornerstone strung together some hits in the top of the fifth as Jacob Sewell with two-outs brought home two runs on a single to make it 17-3.
  • The Golden Eagles put up a rally in the top of the seventh thanks to hits from Drew Goodman and Jack Gagliardi, but it wasn't enough as they fell in game two 19-7.
 
By the Numbers:
44 – UNOH scored 44 runs between the two games
26 – Eight errors led to 26 unearned runs for Cornerstone's pitching staff
2.1 – In his varsity debut, Killian Bies pitched 2.1 innings of one run ball with three strikeouts to highlight the pitching
