FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Baseball traveled to Indiana Tech for a makeup game from April 5 and came away with two tough losses. The Warriors were able to come back in both games against the Golden Eagles and eventually walking-off Cornerstone in both games of the doubleheader. With the two losses, baseball drops to 5-27 (5-11 WHAC) on the year as they will be back in action on Friday, April 11 with a matchup against Rochester Christian.
Game One Recap: #RV Indiana Tech – 4 Cornerstone – 3
- Matthew Kindley doubled with one out in the top of the first to get into scoring position for the Golden Eagles but was stranded there as Indiana Tech worked around the jam.
- A two-out walk came back to bite the Golden Eagles as he would steal second and then come home on a single into right center to make it 1-0 Indiana Tech after one.
- The Golden Eagles strung together some hits in the top of the third but were unable to score as Indiana Tech continued to lead 1-0.
- Brody Nelson worked around a double in the bottom of the third with a strikeout to keep it a 1-0 game as it heads into the fourth.
- The Golden Eagles would load the bases with one out in the top of the fourth after hits from Drew Goodman and Corbin Westerkamp and a hit by pitch by Jack Gagliardi. Michael Ruiz would come through with a single, scoring two to give Cornerstone a 2-1 lead.
- Matthew Kindley opened the top of the fifth with a leadoff single and would later score with two outs on a Drew Goodman single to make it 3-1 Cornerstone after the top of the fifth.
- Brody Nelson worked around a two out jam to keep the Golden Eagles in the lead 3-1 after the bottom of the fifth.
- Free passes hurt the Golden Eagles as Indiana Tech scored two runs on a walk and hit by pitch to tie the game at three at the end of the sixth.
- Indiana Tech would load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh and would walk off the Golden Eagles on a walk to win game one 4-3 over Cornerstone.
Game Two Recap: #RV Indiana Tech – 8 Cornerstone – 7
- Cornerstone opened game two loading the bases with nobody out to put pressure on the Warriors. Cornerstone has scored three so far on a passed ball, double play, and a steal to make it 3-0. The Golden Eagles would score two more to put up five runs in the first inning.
- Back-to-back doubles from Luke Griffith and Drew Goodman added another run as it is now 6-0 after the top of the second.
- Scott Cavitt struck out a pair of batters in the third as the Golden Eagles continued to lead 6-0 after three innings.
- Indiana Tech opened the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun to make it a 6-1 game.
- Four hits and two walks in the bottom of the fifth resulted in four runs for the Warriors as they now made it a game as Cornerstone continued to lead 6-5.
- With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Indiana Tech would hit an infield single to tie the game at six as the game heads into the seventh.
- The Warriors took advantage of a Golden Eagle error in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead.
- Cornerstone would return the favor in the top of the eighth as they would take advantage of an Indiana Tech error to tie the game at seven after a Grant DeRose single.
- Indiana Tech opened the bottom of the ninth with a double and the next batter would walk off the Golden Eagles with a single to win game two 8-7.
