Women’s Volleyball completes their sixth sweep in a row as they cruise past Siena Heights

Adrian, Mich. – Women's Volleyball puts on another dominant performance in their conference opener at Siena Heights. The ladies swept the Saints thanks to strong serving once again and the defense at the net continues to lead the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone will face their toughest test yet on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. against #15 Aquinas for a hometown rival in Mol Arena. 
 
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 3 Siena Heights – 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20)

 
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 20
  • Aubrey Johnson got out to a hot start with three kills in the first six points of the match. 
  • The Saints managed to find some momentum to build from to take the lead over Cornerstone at 14-13 at the midway point of the set. 
  • With Cornerstone trailing by four points Gabby VerBerkmoes sparked the Golden Eagles into a five-point run to regain the lead down the final stretch. 
  • Payton Hutchinson service ace landed the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the match. 
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 19
  • Gianna Warwick led well from behind the service line to start the second set and earn CU an 8-3 advantage.
  • It was a similar story from set one with the Saints fighting back to earn a narrow lead near the halfway mark of the set. 
  • Ava Ford and Payton Hutchinson continued to play well all around the ball as Cornerstone went on multiple big runs to take a demanding 21-13 lead in the set. 
  • Lydia Uganski closed out the second set with a nice swing to give Cornerstone the next step to yet another sweep. 
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Siena Heights – 20
  • The Saints refused to quit to begin the third set as they fought to an early 8-4 lead.
  • Aubrey Johnson continued to be a dominant force in the match with kills for the Golden Eagles which allowed them to take a 16-13 lead. 
  • The serving was still on point from Ava Ford earning two aces to take the Golden Eagles lead to 21-15. 
  • Josilyn Potter closed out the sweep for Cornerstone with a strong kill as they made quick work of the Saints in three sets.  
By The Numbers:
6 – Cornerstone momentum cruises into conference play with their sixth consecutive sweep.
10 – The Golden Eagles secured 10 aces in the match. 
30 – The Ladies have now won 30 of 37 sets on the season. 
 
What's Next?
Women's Volleyball takes on #15 Aquinas in their first true test of the season inside Mol Arena on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
