Defiance, Ohio – Women's Volleyball traveled across the Midwest for a WHAC showdown with Defiance College. The Golden Eagles made quick work once again with a 3-0 sweep over the Yellow Jackets.
Gabby VerBerkmoes led the way with 11 dominant kills for Cornerstone. CU will be back in action on Wednesday, October 1
st inside Mol Arena for a matchup with Lawrence Tech.
Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 3 Defiance – 0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-22)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Defiance – 18
- Aubrey Johnson led the Golden Eagles in the first few plays of the set gathering three consecutive kills.
- Both teams benefitted off errors early on, but the score was stuck dead even at 10-10.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes took a few strong swings for Cornerstone as they went on a four-point run to gain the largest lead of the set.
- It was a true team effort from the Golden Eagles as they put together the points needed to secure a comfortable first set victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Defiance – 10
- The Golden Eagles continued their momentum from the first set this time through Josilyn Potter as she led the way to a Cornerstone 5-1 advantage.
- Emmalee Murphy and Gwyn VerBerkmoes finished off another strong series of plays for Cornerstone as they led 15-3 with no signs of hope from Defiance.
- Gianna Warwick went on a spree of strong serves to help extend the dominant set lead for the Golden Eagles.
- Aubrey Johnson put the stamp on the second set with another kill as Cornerstone cruised to a 2-0 match lead.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Defiance – 22
- Defiance jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set as they looked to extend this match.
- Alli Pickard found a service ace to make the match 9-10, but the Yellow Jackets still held the lead.
- Defiance still put the pressure on and found a better rhythm as they led 18-13 inching towards their first set victory.
- Cornerstone looked to finally find their own momentum in this set which forced a Defiance timeout.
- Gabby VerBerkmoes found two perfect passes from Payton Hutchinson to secure yet another sweep victory in this 2025 season.

45 – Cornerstone tallied 45 total kills compared to the Yellow Jackets 28.
.402 – The Golden Eagles showed impressive success on the attack with .402 kill rate.
14 – The Ladies add their 14
th victory of the season with 11 of them coming in sweep form. \
