Ranked Upset in the Mol Arena for Men's Basketball

 

Grand Rapids, Mich.. – Men's Basketball returned to form last Wednesday against Aquinas College inside of the Mol Arena but continued on in conference play with a ranked matchup against #RV Lourdes University. 18 Points in the first half by Blake Stewart helped Cornerstone to a three-point lead at the end of the first 20 minutes 34-31. The Gray Wolves tied it up 44-44 about five minutes into the second half, but Cornerstone fought back and clinched the victory 87-79. Blake Stewart highlighted the massive win with 32 total points on the day, shooting 61.9% from the field. The Golden Eagles make their way to Adrian, Mich. where they will take on the Saints of Siena Heights University inside of the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 87 #RV Lourdes – 79

  • First Half

    • Blake Stewart opened up the scoring for either side with a three pointer to make it 3-0 for Cornerstone.

    • Kayden Bird hit his first three pointer of the game about a minute and a half into play. Cornerstone continued their form 6-2.

    • As Cornerstone went up by 11 points in the first half, Blake Stewart added his 11th point to the scoreboard to make it 25-14 for the Golden Eagles.

    • The Gray Wolves tied it up with about a minute and a half to go in the first half 29-29.

    • Blake Stewart added five more points to the board with a mid-ranged jumper and a three pointer within 11 seconds of each other at the end of the first half. Cornerstone held the lead at the end of the first period 34-31.

  • Second Half

    • Kayden Bird got it going in the second half with two good free throws to break himself into double digits. The Golden Eagles were up 36-31.

    • 20 points for Blake Stewart just two and a half minutes into the second half as the Golden Eagles kept it going 40-33.

    • The Gray Wolves tied it back with fourteen minutes to go in regulation 44-44.

    • Tre Seydel made his first three pointer of the contest to keep Cornerstone ahead by three 47-44.

    • An and-one play by Andy Mora, followed by a good free throw made it a four-point game with nine minutes left 57-53.

    • A third three pointer for Tre Seydel built the Cornerstone lead to 10 points 67-57.

    • Andy Mora sealed the deal with two good free throws with just 24 seconds left on the clock, as the Golden Eagles took down #RV Lourdes 87-79.

By the Numbers 

32/61.9% – Blake Stewart capped off a strong team performance with an incredible individual performance as he put up 32 total points, shooting 61.9% from the field (13-21).

17/6 – Andy Mora put up 17 points on the day versus the Gray Wolves and assisted his teammates a total of six times in the contest.

12/100% - Shooting 4-4 from the three point line was Tre Seydel, who put up 12 points to help nudge Cornerstone to victory.

The Golden Eagles make their way to Adrian, Mich. where they will take on the Saints of Siena Heights University inside of the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.
