Grand Rapids, Mich.. – Men's Basketball continued down the home stretch of the season with the second meeting between the Golden Eagles and Lawrence Tech of the 2025-26 campaign. The Blue Devils held the number five spot in the WHAC with a conference record of 8-7, while Cornerstone sat just below them at 7-8 in conference play.
Cornerstone led the three pointer percentage in the first half, as they went 5-14 from beyond the arch to go 35.7% from three. The Blue Devils held the lead at the end of the first half by one point 32-31, as Lawrence Tech shot 41.9% from the field. The Golden Eagles shot the lights out in the second half, going 53.6% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arch. Kayden Bird hit 28 total points in the contest as Cornerstone knocked off Lawrence Tech 76-64 to hold the sixth spot in the WHAC standings.
The Golden Eagles will head to Defiance, Ohio to take on the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College on February 4, at 7:30 p.m.

The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing early on until Levi Schultz hit the first three pointer of the night to get them on top 5-4.

Blake Stewart pushed his way through the Lawrence Tech defense to get a layup that kept Cornerstone close to the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech led 16-13.

An unlikely three pointer by Mark DeVries fell through to bring Cornerstone within two points of the Blue Devils 18-16.

A big three pointer by Kayden Bird handed the Golden Eagles the lead back 21-20 with four minutes to go in the half.

Kayden Bird hit two more free throws in quick succession, as Cornerstone remained on top in the first half 31-26.

The Blue Devils pulled back into the lead at the end of the first period of play 31-30 despite late lead Cornerstone was able to manage.

Second Half

Levi Schultz tipped off the second half with a free throw and a three pointer to add four points to Cornerstone's total. The Golden Eagles jumped into the lead 37-32.

As Lawrence Tech knocked down a three pointer to bring the score within four points, Kayden Bird responded with his own three to keep Cornerstone up by seven points 42-35.

Layups by Andy Mora and Kayden Bird pushed Cornerstone further ahead in the second half, up to a nine-point lead 50-41 with about 13 minutes to play.

A 9-0 run by the Golden Eagles saw them to a 19-point lead in the second half 64-45.

Kayden Bird hit a deep three for his 27th point of the night, as the Golden Eagles remained on top 71-48.

The Blue Devils made one last push in the second half but the final free throw by Kayden Bird sealed the home win for Cornerstone 76-64 over Lawrence Tech.
By the Numbers
28/.833 – Kayden Bird seemed to keep knocking them down, as he went 5-6 from three and 9-12 from the field. He totaled 28 points in the contest and went 83.3% from three!
12/4 – Blake Stewart put up 12 total points on the day with four rebounds.
11/8 – Levi Schultz was the final Golden Eagles to break double-digits in the contest with 11 points and eight rebounds.
