Four RBIs From Meny in Game One, Six Scorless innings from Hoeksema in Game Two Secure Two Victories for Baseball

Davenport, Fla. – Baseball collected a pair of wins today defeating Judon 8-3 and Waldorf 7-1. Andrew Meny led CU in game one driving in four runs while JT Ten Eyck hit his first homerun of the season. In game two, Steve Hoeksema tossed a six-inning gem not allowing any runs and striking out two. Broedy Dunham and Drew Goodman both hit solo shots in game two to help propel CU over the Warriors. The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Friday, March 6th as they face Judson and Trinity College of Jacksonville.
 
 
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 8 Judson – 3
  • After a scoreless first, Judson took a 2-0 lead in the second with a sacrifice fly and a single.
  • Cornerstone responded in the third as Bryce Smith singled to drive in John Caliendo followed by a double from Andrew Meny that brought Drew Goodman and Bryce Smith into score. An error by Judon also brough another run in to make it 4-2 CU.
  • The Golden Eagles added two more in the fourth as John Caliendo drove in Michael Ruiz with a double while Andrew Meny hit a sac fly to bring home Caliendo.
  • CU continued to add to their lead as another double from Andrew Meny scored Drew Goodman to make it 7-2 Cornerstone.
  • In the bottom of the seventh JT Ten Eyck sent a ball over the centerfield fence for his first homerun of the year, extending the Golden Eagles lead to six.
  • Judson brought one run across in the top of the ninth, but CU would hold on to secure the 8-3 win.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 7 Waldorf – 1
  • The game started with a quiet first frame, but Cornerstone took a 2-0 lead in the second as John Caliendo singled to drive in Thomas Rupp and Corbin Westerkamp.
  • CU added two more in the top of the fourth as Drew Goodman walked in a run followed with a balk by the Waldorf pitcher that brought in another run.
  • In the top of the fifth, Broedy Johnson blasted a solo shot to extend the Golden Eagles lead to five.
  • Drew Goodman then hit a solo homer of his own in the sixth to make it 6-0 in favor of CU.
  • Chace Sorenson scored on wild pitch in the top of the seventh and Waldorf drove in one run in the bottom of the inning, but Cornerstone slammed the door and took a 7-1 victory over the Warriors. 
By the Numbers:
3 – Three different Golden Eagles hit solo homeruns.
5 – Andrew Meny drove in five runs leading CU.
6/0 – Steve Hoeksema tossed six scoreless innings in the second game.

The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Friday, March 6th as they face Judson and Trinity College of Jacksonville.
