Davenport, Fla. – Baseball dropped a pair of games today losing to Judson and Trinity College of Jacksonville. The bats were quiet in game one only recording three hits with two coming off the bat of
Nate Jackson. Game two saw the offense spark late highlighted by a double from
Drew Goodman, but their comeback effort fell short. The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Saturday, March 7th as they face Mayville State for an early morning doubleheader.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Judson – 13
- Judson got out to an early lead scoring four runs while hitting back-to-back triples. Drew Goodman doubled in the bottom half of the frame, but CU could not bring him into score.
- In the top of the second Judson added two more off back-to-back doubles extending their lead of Cornerstone to six.
- Judson continued to grow their lead bringing three runners across to score in the top of the third.
- Chace Sorenson came in to pitch the for the Golden Eagles and tossed back-to-back scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth.
- JU added four more runs in the sixth to take a 13-0 lead over Cornerstone which would hold into the seventh to end the game.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 6 Trinity College of Jacksonville – 10
- After a scoreless first inning, Trinity scored three in the bottom half of the second.
- Trinity extended their lead over CU in the third bringing two runners across to score making it a 5-0 game.
- In the bottom of the fourth Trinity scored two more funs growing their lead to seven.
- Cornerstone had a response in the fifth as a single from John Caliendo along with Thomas Rupp and Andrew Meny getting on base loaded the bases for Chace Sorenson who walked to bring home Caliendo.
- Trinity answered right back with two in the bottom the frame to extend the lead to eight.
- After Trinity made it 10-1, Cornerstone cut into the lead as Drew Goodman doubled to bring Thomas Rupp and Chace Sorenson into score.
- The Golden Eagles continued to chip away at Trinity's lead as two RBI singles from Luke Griffith and Chace Sorenson along with a walk by Adrew Meny brought three more runs across to score.
- After a scoreless bottom of the eighth, Cornerstone went down in order in the ninth falling 10-6 to Trinity College of Jacksonville.
By the Numbers:
9 – CU had nine total errors on the day.
23 – Cornerstone was outscored 23 to six.
