Davenport, Fla. – Baseball dropped both games of their doubleheader against Mayville State.
Drew Goodman led CU with three hits on the day along with an RBI and a run scored. The Golden Eagles continue play in the RussMatt Tournament on Monday, March 9th as they face Valley City State and Southeastern.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Mayville State – 4
- Cornerstone took a 1-0 lead to start the game as Drew Goodman singled which brought up Andrew Meny who smacked a double to bring Goodman into score.
- The Golden Eagles added another in the top of the third as Drew Goodman scored on a wild pitch making it 2-0.
- After being held scoreless through five Mayville State took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth off two singles and a sacrifice fly.
- CU brought one across in the top of the seventh off a double from Drew Goodman but fell just short losing game one 4-3.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Mayville State – 16
- The first two innings of game were quiet, but Mayville took a 1-0 lead in the third on a two out single.
- Cornerstone responded in the bottom of the inning as Bryce Smith and Broedy Dunham scored on errors followed by Nate Jackson driving in Drew Goodman with a single.
- The Comets then put up a nine spot in the top of the fourth taking a 10-3 lead.
- Mayville State continued to add on as they drove four more runners across to score in the fifth.
- In the top of sixth, the Comets extended their lead to 16-3 and CU went down in order in the bottom of the seventh to lose game two.
By the Numbers:
6 – CU had six total errors on the day.
4 – Cornerstone had four hitters be hit by a pitch in game two.
