Livonia, Mich. – Softball went 1-1 in their first day of the WHAC Tournament, losing a heartbreaker to UNOH in extra innings before a dominating 15-5 win against Aquinas.
Paige Liddell and
Taylor Zwagerman led CU with three RBIs on the day while
Morgan Jenkins led with four hits and had two RBIs. The Golden Eagles continue their WHAC Tournament run as they will face the loser of Madonna vs UNOH on Saturday, April 25th at 3 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 3 UNOH – 4
- After two scoreless innings, Cornerstone struck first as Anna Griffioen doubled to left field to drive in two runs and gave CU a 2-0 lead.
- Later in the third inning Sam Timmer singled to left bring Anna Griffioen in to score and extend their lead to three.
- UNOH threatened in the bottom of the fourth getting two runners on, but a diving catch by Paige Liddell ended the inning to keep Cornerstone ahead 3-0.
- The Racers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as a single into shallow left field brought in two runs to cut the Cornerstone lead to one.
- In the bottom of the seventh, UNOH got the bases loaded with one away. A sacrifice fly brought in a run to tie the game, but CU was able to escape the jam and send the game to extra innings.
- With two outs in the eighth, UNOH hit a ball to deep left field that landed just before the fence bringing a run into score and take a 4-3 victory over CU.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 15 Aquinas – 5
- Cornerstone erupted for seven runs in the first inning as singles from Taylor Zawagerman, Rylee Stephenson, Kaylee Misialek, Alexis Ashbay and Morgan Jenkins gave CU an early 7-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles added to their lead in the second as they loaded the bases on three straight singles and brought in three runs on two fielder's choice and a walk by Morgan Jenkins to make it a 10-0 game.
- Aquinas got on the board in the third as a single up the middle brought in a run to cut the CU lead to nine.
- The Saints continued to fight back as they added three more runs in the fourth on a double to left center.
- CU responded in the bottom half of the inning as Taylor Zwagerman doubled to drive in two followed by singles off the bats of Rylee Stephenson and Maddi Veersma to give the Golden Eagles a 15-5 lead.
- AQ got one across in the fifth via a wild pitch, but Cornerstone would shut the door a continue their season as they defeated the Saints 15-5.

The Golden Eagles continue their WHAC Tournament run as they will face the loser of Madonna vs UNOH on Saturday, April 25th at 3 p.m.
