Livonia, Mich. – Softball's WHAC Tournament run came to a heartbreaking end as they were walked off in the bottom of the seventh. Cornerstone got out to a three-run lead in the top of the first as
Kaylee Misialek's two RBI single was CU's only hit of the game.
Paige Liddell had two walks and one RBI and
Kara Sandberg struck out three Crusaders.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 3 Madonna – 4
- Cornerstone took an early lead against Madonna as they got the bases loaded in the top of the first which saw Paige Liddell walk in a run followed by a single off the bat of Kaylee Misialek that scored two runs which gave CU a 3-0 lead.
- The Crusaders responded in the bottom half of the inning as a single to left field brought two runs across to score and put them within one of CU.
- Both teams would go down in order in the third as Kara Sandberg kept Cornerstone ahead 3-2.
- Paige Liddell walked to lead off the top of the fourth, but a ground put and two straight pop outs got Madonna out of the inning.
- MU got two runners on in the top of the fifth, but Kara Sandberg ended the threat with a strikeout and a flyout to right field to hold the CU lead.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Madonna tied the game at three with a single down the left field line that brought a run into score.
- The Golden Eagles got a runner on in the top of the seventh as Dylan Holmes walked, but they were unable to capitalized as the game remained tied going into the bottom of the seventh.
- The first batter of the bottom half of the seventh hit a solo homerun to walk off CU as Madonna won 4-3.
