Livonia, Mich. – Softball, after taking down Aquinas 15-5 in the Loser's bracket of the WHAC Tournament continued their second-chance run against UNOH. The Racers dropped back down to play Cornerstone after losing to Madonna 5-3 in the Winner's bracket early in the day.
The contest was back-and-forth to begin, as Cornerstone went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Racers got on top 3-2 at the end of the first inning. Cornerstone kept UNOH quiet for the next two innings and got four more runs on the board to get the lead back 6-3. UNOH fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they brought in four runs, but Cornerstone finished out the game with two runs in the top of the seventh and held Northwestern Ohio to just one run in the bottom of the final inning. Cornerstone took the hard-earned win 12-9 over UNOH.
Softball will take on Madonna on Sunday, April 26, in Livonia, Mich. If the Golden Eagles can take down #3 in the country, they will have to win a second game the same day against the Crusaders in order to move ahead in the tournament.

Cornerstone began the top of the first with a single from Rylee Stephenson that sent both Taylor Zwagerman and Morgan Jenkins home for the first two runs of the game. Cornerstone led 2-0 over the Racers.

The Racers battled back in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead after scoring three runs in the inning. UNOH led Cornerstone 3-2.

The top of the second inning saw Sam Timmer single and bat in Alexis Ashbay to score the tying run 3-3.

Paige Liddell to Taylor Zwagerman got the first out of the bottom of the second inning. Kaylee Misialek caught the fly ball in center field to get the third out in the bottom of the second to send the game into the third inning with the score still level 4-4.

Kaylee Misialek grounded out to second base, but Rylee Stephenson made it home in time to take the lead back for Cornerstone 4-3. Kara Sandberg got a strikeout to close out the bottom of the third that kept Cornerstone up.

Alexis Ashbay managed to make it home thanks to an error by UNOH's second base, while Anna Griffioen made it home after Morgan Jenkins grounded out to second. The Golden Eagles held the lead at the end of the top of the fourth inning 6-3.

Dylan Holmes knocked in the sacrifice fly that saw Paige Liddell score in the top of the fifth inning for Cornerstone who held the lead 7-4 over the Racers.

Anna Griffioen made it home as Taylor Zwagerman reached first on fielder's choice, but Cornerstone was not done yet in the top of the sixth inning. Rylee Stephenson doubled to left center, which brought home Taylor Zwagerman and Morgan Jenkins. The Golden Eagles stayed on top 10-4.

The Racers still had fight in them despite the six-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth, bringing in four runs to inch closer to Cornerstone's total. The Golden Eagles held the lead going into the seventh inning 10-8.

A Morgan Jenkins triple to right center sent Kaitlyn Cain home to score for Cornerstone in the top of the seventh inning, leading 11-8. Maddie Miller stepped in to pinch hit for Sam Timmer and singled up the middle of the diamond as the speedy Morgan Jenkins reached home and scored for Cornerstone. Taylor Zwagerman flew out to right field and the Racers stepped in for their final chance to keep this game alive as Cornerstone held a four-run lead 12-8.

The Golden Eagles held the Racers to just one run in the bottom of the seventh inning and took the win over UNOH 12-9.
By the Numbers:
3/4 – It was a great day for Rylee Stephenson, who had three hits and four RBIs in the tournament win over UNOH, she also added one run to Cornerstone's total.
3/3 – Morgan Jenkins left her own mark on the contest with three runs off of three hits, along with two RBIs.

Softball will take on Madonna on Sunday, Apr 26, 2026 in Livonia, Mich. If the Golden Eagles can take down #3 in the country, they will have to win a second game the same day against the Crusaders in order to move ahead in the tournament.
