Fort Wayne, Ind. – Women's Volleyball went 1-1 in their last day of the Onset Tournament picking up their first win of the 2026 season.
Aubrey Johnson picked up 17 kills in game one with 10 digs while
Josilyn Potter followed suit with 18 kills and 10 digs in their loss to #20 Midland University. Game two saw the Golden Eagles grab their first win with a sweep of Ohio Christian.
Riley Pilat led the charge with 15 kills and a .481 hitting percentage.
Payton Hutchinson recorded 38 assists with
Gianna Warwick having 15 digs and four service aces. Women's Volleyball hosts Saint Xavier University on Tuesday, August 25th for their home opener with the match set to begin at 6 p.m.
Game Recap – #21 Cornerstone – 1 #20 Midland – 3 (18-25, 25-23, 24-26, 19-25)
First Set: Cornerstone – 18 Midland – 25
- The match began with CU falling behind early, but kills by Aubrey Johnson, Kaelyn Sohre and Josilyn Potter helped Cornerstone tie the set at eight.
- Midland once again took the lead but a kill from Josilyn Potter and attack errors by the Vikings kept the Golden Eagles within one.
- Cornerstone continued to keep the set close with kills from Riley Pilat and Aubrey Johnson, but Midland started to pull away making it a 21-16 game.
- The Vikings then went on a 4-1 run to secure a set one victory 25-18.
Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Midland – 23
- The second set started with the Golden Eagles getting out to a 5-2 lead with multiple kills by Josilyn Potter and a service ace by Gianna Warwick.
- Cornerstone continued to grow their lead as Riley Pilat recorded a kill and a service ace paired with two kills from Aubrey Johnson to make it 11-6.
- Riley Pilat continued to score points for CU as she picked up two more kills and block with Kaelyn Sohre to make it 17-12 in favor of Cornerstone.
- Midland fought back to within one to make it 21-20.
- Josilyn Potter and Aubrey Johnson paired up with kills to give the Golden Eagles a 25-23 set two win.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 24 Midland – 26
- The third set began with each scoring three straight points with two kills from Josilyn Potter and a service ace by Aubrey Johnson.
- Riley Pilat kept CU close with the Vikings scoring three straight points for the Golden Eagles.
- Cornerstone then went on a four-point run with a kill from Kaelly Sohre, a service ace by Ava Ford and errors by the Vikings to take their first lead of the set 11-10.
- The Golden Eagles went on another run highlighted by three straight kills by Aubrey Johnson to give CU a 19-16 lead.
- Midland battled back again and tied the set at 23.
- Cornerstone answered back as Josilyn Potter recorded a kill to tie the set at 24, but Midland scored back-to-back points to take the third set.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 19 Midland – 25
- The fourth set started with the Vikings taking a 7-3 lead over Cornerstone.
- Josilyn Potter collected three kills to keep the Golden Eagles close with Midland holding an 11-6 lead.
- Aubrey Johnson and Josilyn Potter tallied more kills, but the Vikings continued to extend their lead making it 18-11.
- Cornerstone fought back within three as Josilyn Potter and Dyllan Hanna pick up kills and Kaelyn and Payton Hutchinson combined for a block.
- Midland then went on a 4-1 run to end the set and take a 3-1 match win over the Golden Eagles.
