Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Volleyball collected their first home win of the 2026 season with a dominate sweep over the Cougars of Saint Xaiver. Aubrey Johnson led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills, 10 digs and four service aces while the VerBerkmoes sisters combined for 17 kills and seven blocks. Women's Volleyball hits the road as they travel to Kokomo, Indiana for a weekend tournament with their match coming against #RV Marian University on Friday, August 28th at 2:15 p.m.
 

Game Recap – #21 Cornerstone – 3 Saint Xavier – 0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-14)
 
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Saint Xaiver – 18

• The match began with Saint Xavier taking an 8-3 lead over the Golden Eagles.
• Cornerstone answered back with a 4-0 run with Aubrey Johnson and Gabby VerBerkmoes each having two kills.
• The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the set and ran with it as a kill by Josilyn Potter and two service aces by Aubrey Johnson to give CU a 16-12 lead.
• Gwyn VerBerkmoes extended Cornerstone's lead with three kills and a block assist with Gabby VerBerkmoes making a 21-14 lead in favor of CU.
• Cornerstone closed the first set with a service ace by Ava Ford and a kill from Aubrey Johnson securing a 25-18 set one win for the Golden Eagles.

Second Set: Cornerstone – 25 Saint Xavier – 16

• The second set started with both teams going on three-point runs with Cornerstone getting a kill from Josilyn Potter, a service ace from Aubrey Johnson and a block by Gwyn VerBerkmoes and Kaelyn Sohre.
• CU took their first lead of the set with three kills from Gabby VerBerkmoes, but the Cougars continued to fight keeping the set within one. 
• A service ace by Olivia Endris and two attack errors by the Cougars extended Cornerstone's lead in set number two.
• Josilyn Potter grew the Golden Eagles to seven with two kills paired with a service ace by Aubrey Johnson.
• The Golden Eagles took a set two victory 25-16 with Gwyn VerBerkmoes and Gabby VerBerkmoes closing out the set with multiple kills.

Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Saint Xavier – 14

• The third set began as a back-and-forth battle with the set being tied up at seven with a kill by Aubrey Johnson.
• Cornerstone then went on a seven-point run with multiple kills by Aubrey Johnson and a service ace by Payton Hutchinson to make it a 14 game in favor of CU.
• The Golden Eagles went on another run highlighted by two kills from Kaelyn Sohre along with a block by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Gwyn VerBerkmoes to put CU up 20-12.
• Three straight errors by the Cougars closed out the third and final set as Cornerstone secured a 25-14 set three win to sweep Saint Xaiver. 

What's Next
Women's Volleyball hits the road as they travel to Kokomo, Indiana for a weekend tournament with their match coming against #RV Marian University on Friday, August 28th at 2:15 p.m.
