Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Soccer falls to Saint Francis 2-0 at home.
Seth Vigil had two shots with
Isaac Wood and
Joshua Roush each having one. Cornerstone were unable to get a decent attack going against the Cougars as Saint Francis took a 2-0 lead in the first half and didn't look back. Men's Soccer will be back in action on Wednesday, September 16th as they kick off conference play in Southfield, Michigan with a match against Lawrence Tech set for 7 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Saint Francis (Ind.) – 2
First Half:
- The match opened with a corner kick by the Golden Eagles along with a shot minutes later by Jack VanEyk that rung off the post.
- Saint Francis followed up with two corner kicks of their own and a header that was sent wide left to keep the game scoreless.
- Seth Vigil fired shot in the 14th minute but flew wide left to keep it 0-0.
- In the 18th minute Mason Heyboer was handed a yellow card which led to shot by the Cougars that went wide left.
- Justin Hirwa took a shot at the goal in the 30th minute but just missed wide right to keep it a tie game.
- The Cougars answered with a goal late in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- Just a few minutes later Saint Francis extended their lead with a goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Second Half:
- The second half started with a shot by the Cougars that was blocked by a Cornerstone defender.
- Saint Francis was handed a yellow card in the 55th minute which led to a header shot by Seth Vigil that went just wide right.
- Luke Philo kept it 2-0 with a save in the 58th minute.
- The Cougars continued the pressure on Cornerstone with a shot in the 64th minute but sent it wide right.
- Isaac Wood fired a shot of his own but pushed it wide right to keep it 2-0.
- Cornerstone picked up two yellow cards in the 77th and 83rd minute, but no harm would come from them.
- Saint Francis sent a header near the goal that sailed just high which kept it a 2-0 game.
- Joshua Roush fired a shot in the 88th minute that missed which would close out the game as the Golden Eagles fell to Saint Francis 2-0.
