Southfield, Mich. – The Golden Eagles opened up WHAC-play on the road against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. The Blue Devils began on the front foot and opened the scoring in the 16th minute of play that gave Lawrence Tech an early lead. Cornerstone saw a few opportunities in the second half, while down by one goal, but Lawrence Tech bounced ahead to a two goal lead in the 69th minute. The Blue Devils ultimately defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0, despite multiple opportunities for Cornerstone to work their way back into the match. Cornerstone look ahead to their WHAC home-opener on September 19 at 4 p.m. inside of the Cornerstone Soccer Stadium.

First Half:

Cornerstone had two chances early on in the 10th and 11th minutes, one on goal from Jack VanEyk that forced a good save from the Lawrence Tech goalkeeper.

The Blue Devils went up 1-0 in the 16th minute after multiple opportunities were stopped by Cornerstone.

A save by Luke Philo in the 34th minute kept the match within reach for the Golden Eagles.

The shot by the Blue Devils in the 44th minute flew over the bar and the score remained as it was 1-0 in Lawrence Tech's favor.
Second Half:

A tough first ten minutes for both sides saw a yellow card out of the center official's pocket handed to a Lawrence Tech player in the 54th minute of play.

The Blue Devils doubled their lead in the 69th minute, holding the lead 2-0.

Lawrence Tech held Cornerstone within their own half for a long time, denying any real opportunities in the second half. A third goal for Lawrence Tech hit the back of the net that made it 3-0.

The continued physicality from both teams saw Cornerstone's Mason Heyboer and a Blue Devil both receive yellow cards in the 89th minute of play.

One final attempt on goal by Lake Vander Ploeg was saved by the goalkeeper in the 90th minute.
