Women's Volleyball Makes it 12 Wins in a Row with Sweep of Rochester Christian

Rochester Hills, Mich. – Women's Volleyball swept Rochester Christian on the road for their 12th win in a row. Aubrey Johnson led CU with 12 kills while adding seven digs. Gwyn VerBerkmoes totaled ten kills and three total blocks while Payton Hutchinson powered the offense with 33 assists and three service aces. The Golden Eagles return home on Saturday, September 19th as they host Lawrence Tech for a WHAC matchup set to begin at 1 p.m.

Game Recap – #RV Cornerstone – 3 Rochester Christian – 0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-18)

First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Rochester Christian – 15

The match began with each team trading blows until Cornerstone went on a four-point run highlighted by an ace from Payton Hutchinson to make it 8-5.
The Golden Eagles continued to grow their lead with an ace by Gianna Warwick along kills by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Josilyn Potter to make it 16-7 in favor of CU.
Two kills by Aubrey Johnson paired with one from Gabby VerBerkmoes gave Cornerstone a ten-point lead in the first set.
Kaelyn Sohre and Aubrey Johnson close out the first set with kills to give the Golden Eagles a 25-15 win in set one.

Second Set: Cornerstone – 28 Rochester Christian– 26

The second set started with Cornerstone taking a 5-3 lead with Josilyn Potter picking up two kills.
Cornerstone extended their lead with a kill and a service ace by Gwyn VerBerkmoes.
Rochester Christian responded with a five-point run to take a 13-10 lead over CU.
The Warriors grew their lead over Cornerstone with three-straight points to make it 16-12 in favor of RCU.
Two kills by Gwyn VerBerkmoes and a block with her sister Gabby VerBerkmoes brought Cornerstone back and tied the set at 17.
The set continued to be a back-and-forth battle as kills from Josilyn Potter and Aubrey Johnson gave CU a 22-21 lead over the Warriors.
The set was tied up at 25 but kills by Gabby VerBerkmoes and Aubrey Johnson secured a 28-26 set two win for Cornerstone.

Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Rochester Christian – 18

The third set saw the Golden Eagles go on a 7-1 run to begin the set with two service aces by Payton Hutchinson, a kill and an ace by Aubrey Johnson and a kill by Josilyn Potter.
RCU answered with a run of their own to get within two of the Golden Eagles.
The two teams continued to go back and forth before Aubrey Johnson recorded back-to-back kills to put CU up 13-9.
Two errors by RCU and a kill by Gwyn VerBerkmoes extended Cornerstone's lead to six.
The Golden Eagles ended the set with a kill by Aubrey Johnson and two errors by the Warriors to take a 25-18 set three to sweep Rochester Christian 3-0.

The Golden Eagles return home on Saturday, September 19th as they host Lawrence Tech for a WHAC matchup set to begin at 1 p.m.
