Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Golden Eagles returned to their home-field, where they hosted the University of Michigan-Dearborn for their first win of the season in stunning fashion. Cornerstone started the match with plenty of chances, before a foul in the box during the 37th minute sent Isaac Wood to the penalty spot with an opportunity to put Cornerstone up in the first half. The sophomore slotted it past the goalkeeper, as Cornerstone held a 1-0 lead going into halftime. The second half saw more chances for Cornerstone, as a shot from Lake Vander Ploeg in the 51st minute was saved but Jack VanEyk followed up the shot and put it away, which doubled Cornerstone's lead for the night 2-0. Another attacking chance for Cornerstone came from Justin Hirwa, who was taken down in the box, which earned another penalty kick for the Golden Eagles. Lake Vander Ploeg stepped up for Cornerstone and tucked it away as Cornerstone earned three points and a clean sheet at home over the Wolverines 3-0.
The Golden Eagles will continue with WHAC play against the ninth in conference Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio on September 26 at 4 p.m. The match will take place in Lima, Ohio at Racer Field.

First Half:

Cornerstone began quickly, as they earned a corner kick in the 15th minute of play, but the ball was cleared by the Michigan-Dearborn defense.

The header by Steven Stidham in the 22nd minute was saved by the goalkeeper of Michigan-Dearborn, denying the opening goal. The score remained 0-0.

Another great opportunity for the Golden Eagles in the 25th minute by Isaac Wood was pushed away by the goalkeeper.

Luke Philo made a save in the 30th minute that kept the momentum on the home side for the time being.

A foul in the box on Seth Vigil in the 37th minute saw Isaac Wood step up to take the penalty kick for Cornerstone. Wood sent it home as Cornerstone took the lead 1-0 before the halftime whistle.

Another opportunity for Cornerstone from Isaac Wood in the first half forced a save from the Michigan-Dearborn goalkeeper kept the match close as halftime made way.
Second Half:

Cornerstone began the second half on the front-foot, as Lake Vander Ploeg took a shot from outside the box that was pushed away from the goalkeeper, but Jack VanEyk followed it up and slotted it past the defense to score the second goal of the night for the Golden Eagles.

Another save by Luke Philo kept Cornerstone up 2-0 in the 56th minute of play.

Isaac Wood got on the end of a great team play by Cornerstone, but his shot flew just wide of the post in the 61st minute.

Isaac Kwantes played the ball over the back line towards Justin Hirwa who touched it by his defender the goalkeeper, but Michigan-Dearborn's keeper clipped Hirwa's foot and sent him to the ground. The official pointed towards the penalty spot for Cornerstone, another golden opportunity.

Lake Vander Ploeg stepped up that time for Cornerstone and calmly put it in the bottom corner, as Cornerstone shot up to a three-goal lead 3-0 with about 30 minutes left to play.

One last shot by Josiah Demond went just wide of the goal in the 85th minute of play.

Cornerstone held strong and earned a definitive win, on the offense and defensive side of things, as they took down Michigan-Dearborn 3-0 at home.
By The Numbers
1/3 – Isaac Wood slotted the first goal past the Michigan-Dearborn goalkeeper and was on the attack for most of the game as he recorded three total shots on goal in the contest.
