Grand Rapids, Mich. – Men's Soccer faced off against a top NCAA DIII opponent in #20 Calvin University from down the Beltline. It was an uphill battle for Cornerstone, as the Knights knocked three goals in before halftime, leading in the first 45 minutes 3-0 over the Golden Eagles. The second half saw an opening save for Caleb Vissia in the 52nd minute, but a counterattack by the Knights in the 63rd minute saw a fourth goal for the home team who led 4-0. The long shot by Calvin in the 80th trickled just over the goalline, which gave the Knights an even stronger lead 5-0. The strong opponent in Calvin took a commanding win over the Golden Eagles 5-0 in the down-the-street matchup.
The Golden Eagles will take on another NCAA DIII in Albion College on October 2 at 4 p.m. in Albion, Mich.

First Half:

The Knights got things going right away, as their first shot on goal found its way through the crowd into the net for goal number one in the 12th minute.

Jack VanEyk broke away from his defender in the 19th minute and got a shot off but it was blocked in the 19th minute.

After a corner kick for Cornerstone, the ball bounced out of the box and onto the foot of Jadon Strawser, whose shot was blocked in the 29th minute.

Caleb Vissia made a save in the 35th minute, but it bounced around the box and was slotted in, as Calvin went up 2-0 in the 35th minute of play.

The 40th minute saw another shot by the Knights saved by Caleb Vissia, but the follow up on the play by the Knights meant goal number three for the night went up on the scoreboard for the home side. Calvin led 3-0 going into the halftime break.
Second Half:

Another save by Caleb Vissia in the 52nd minute denied an even greater lead for the home team. The score remained 3-0.

After a great offensive opportunity for the Golden Eagles, the Knights won back possession and knocked a fourth goal in on the counterattacking play in the 63rd minute of the second half. The home side led the visitors 4-0.

The freshman goalkeeper, Caleb Vissia, made another save in the 68th minute to keep the score as it was.

The offensive opportunities continued to present themselves to the Knights, as Caleb Vissia made another key save in the 76th minute of play.

The Golden Eagles won a corner kick in the 78th minute, with not much time left on the clock. But the Calvin goalkeeper came out and grabbed it for the Knights.

Josiah DeMond got a shot on goal in the 80th but Calvin made the save and followed it up with their own offensive opportunity that led to the fifth goal for the Knights in the 80th minute.

The 86th minute saw the challenge by Cullen Knuth warrant a yellow card, as it was Cornerstone's third yellow of the night.

The Knights held the lead and finished the shutout win at home against the Golden Eagles 5-0.
