Mishawaka, Ind. – The Golden Eagles took a trek down to Indiana to take on a top ranked opponent in #12 Bethel University. The first half seemed like it might have been a busy day for Luke Philo in goal for Cornerstone after two shots, one saved by Philo, came around the 7th minute of play. The first shot of the contest for Cornerstone came in the 21st minute from Lake Vander Ploeg that forced a save from the Pilots' goalkeeper. The Pilots were able to break through the Cornerstone defense in the 24th minute and went up 1-0 in the first half. Cornerstone held strong in the second half, not allowing any more goals the entire match, but one final attempt on goal from Steven Stidham that was saved saw the final whistle blow. The Pilots held strong at home 1-0 over Cornerstone, but it was an impressive display by Cornerstone up against the #12 ranked team in the country.
The Golden Eagles head to Chicago, Ill. where they will take on Saint Xavier University in another non-conference matchup before the start of the WHAC season. The game will take place on September 8 at 7 p.m. on Deaton Field.

The first attack of the game came from Bethel, as two shots flew in the 7th minute, one on goal that was denied by Luke Philo.

The Pilots did not back down physically, as three fouls in the span of four minutes handed possession back to the Golden Eagles.

Another shot by Bethel University forced a good save out of Luke Philo to hold strong between the posts.

The Golden Eagles' first look at goal came in the 21st minute by Lake Vander Ploeg, which forced a save out of the Bethel goalkeeper.

After three corner-kicks in-a-row for the Pilots, they finally broke through with a goal in the 24th minute to go up 1-0 in the first half of play.

The attempt from Seth Vigil in the 34th minute sailed over the bar as Cornerstone attempted to get something going in the offensive half.

The last minute save in the 42nd minute of the first half by Luke Philo kept the contest close before the halftime whistle sounded.
Second Half:

The Pilots started the second half off as their first attempt on goal in the half battered off of the post, denying the Pilots an even greater advantage.

A shot from Steven Stidham in the 70th minute was blocked by a Pilot defender, denying a goal for the Golden Eagles late in the contest.

One last shot by the Golden Eagles in the 74th minute by Stephen JoPaul sailed just high over the crossbar.

Cornerstone denied any more goal-scoring opportunities for Bethel inside the final 10 minutes of play, but were unable to find the breakthrough goal to tie the game back up. #12 Bethel University took the win 1-0 over Cornerstone.
