Chicago, Ill. – Men's Soccer falls to Saint Xaiver in final minute of play. Issac Kwantes scored the lone goal for Cornerstone while recording three shots.
Jadon Strawser picked up an assist along with a shot on goal,
Luke Philo made seven saves with the Golden Eagles earning four yellow cards as a team. Men's Soccer will be back in action on Saturday, September 12th as they return home to host the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) with kick off set for 3 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Saint Xavier – 2
First Half:
- The match opened with the Golden Eagles firing off three shots in the first six minutes with Steven Stidham and Justin Hirwa both missing high.
- Isaac Wood sent a shot towards the goal but was blocked in the 19th minute.
- Saint Xavier tested Cornerstone in the 24th minute as Luke Philo made his first save of the night to keep the game scoreless.
- The Golden eagles then faced back-to-back shots with Luke Philo picking up another save.
- The Cougars were handed a yellow card in the 31st minute which was then followed by two Cornerstone fouls.
- Seth Vigil fired a shot on goal in the 35th minute but couldn't get it past the Saint Xaiver keeper as the game remained tied.
- Shortly after Harrison VanWoerkom sent s header on goal that was saved by the Cougars keeper as Saint Xavier kept it tied 0-0.
- Cornerstone's Sam Kellly was handed a yellow card to close out the first with the game still tied at zero.
Second Half:
- The second half started with Saint Xavier scoring the first goal of the game and took a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
- In the 58th minute, Justin Hirwa was given a yellow card, Cornerstone's second of the game.
- Cornerstone tied the game in the 62nd minute as Isaac Kwantes fired a shot into the back of the goal with Jadon Strawser getting the assist.
- Saint Xaiver responded with back-to-back shots in the 65th minute with Luke Philo making both saves.
- Luke Philo kept the game tied once again with a save in the 73rd minute.
- Isaac Kwantes sent a shot that went wide with Jadon Strawser firing another that was saved by the Cougar's keeper.
- In the 86th minute Saint Xavier sent another shot on goal with Luke Philo once again making the save to keep it 1-1.
- Saint Xavier found the back of the net at 89:35 in the match to take a 2-1 lead over Cornerstone.
