Women’s Soccer plays No. 22 Davenport to 2-2 draw

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With a chance to move into second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the women's soccer team posted a 2-2 draw at No. 22 Davenport on Wednesday night. The tie leaves the Golden Eagles at 9-2-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the WHAC which is good for a tie for third. Cornerstone will come back home for a Saturday 4:30 kick against Madonna University on Saturday.

The host Panthers, who came into the match with a No. 22 national ranking despite being in fifth place in the conference standings, got out of the gates fast with a Paige Eli goal in the 7'. Cornerstone did not falter from their game plan however and got the tying goal from Mykayla Denison (FR/Muskegon, Mich.) in the 33' as the freshman curled one in from the top of the 18-yard box

That score held up until halftime only to see each team post quick goals right off the bat in the second half. CU struck first just 4:19 in on a free kick inside the DU box from Lexanna Siemasz (SO/Waterford, Mich.). The Panthers got the equalizer just 3:19 later on a goal from newcomer Nea-Stina Liledahl.

That would be the last of the scoring for either team as the remaining 37:22 of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime was controlled by the defense and the two goalkeepers.

Cornerstone keeper, Allison Snowden (SO/Kalamazoo, Mich.), finished with five saves as her counterpart posted six.

The Golden Eagles will come back home on Saturday to face Madonna University in a 4:30 p.m. kick. The first 150 fans will get Autograph Posters on Golden Eagle Club Day.
