GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior midfielder Mark Rougas (SR/Geneva, Ill.) took a pass from Diego Bobadilla (SR/Holland, Mich.) late in the first half and put it by the MU keeper and it was the lone goal of the match as Cornerstone handed Madonna their first loss of the season. The Golden Eagles are 5-5-1 overall with the victory and improve to 3-0-1 in WHAC play. CU will play host to No. 6 Northwestern Ohio on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Game Flow…
The opening 45 minutes of play only saw one shot from both teams and it was one that counted as Diego Bobadilla chipped a ball through the Crusaders defense to teammate Mark Rougas who hit a shot over the MU keeper's head to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead at the break.
Early in the second, Madonna generated some offense but CU keeper Thomas Bowes (SO/Grand Rapids, MIch.) was solid in front of the net and the Golden Eagles' defense held MU in check. Cornerstone also created some scoring chances but were unable to double their score as the defense held up their second straight shutout for the win.
Quotable…
"I am really proud of the team for stepping up and getting a huge conference win at home. Thomas (Bowes) and the back line had a killer game and got a big shutout for us. We want to keep this momentum going into Saturday" – Senior Mark Rougas
